GLOSSARY: KEY DATA DEFINITIONS Enrollment Definitions Headcount: Number of individual students enrolled for at least one class at a university. Fiscal Year Equated Students (FYES): Calculated equivalent of the number of full-time students enrolled at a university; FYES is equal to student credit hours divided by 30 at the undergraduate level. Resident/Nonresident: The HEIDI definition as to whether or not a student is categorized as a Michigan resident is based on the universities' individual residency policies for tuition purposes. Finance Definitions Tuition and Fees: Undergraduate tuition and fee rates are based on 30 credit hours per academic year (15 for Fall semester; 15 for Winter semester); rates do not include refundable fees, course fees, or other fees not paid by a majority of students in a given academic level, but do reflect any refunds provided on a uniform basis. Current Fund Revenue: All revenue received for current operations―including auxiliary operations, such as hospitals and dormitories, and operations funded from restricted revenue sources, such as federally-funded research. General Fund Revenue: Subset of current fund revenue received for student instruction and related activities; general fund revenue consists primarily of state appropriations and tuition/fees. State Appropriation: See notes at end of "Current Fund, General Fund, and State Appropriation Revenue" and "General Fund Revenue by Source" sections. Indirect Cost Recovery: Reimbursement of general fund expenditures for indirect costs resulting from federally-funded research or other grant-based activity. Financial Aid (General Fund Expenditures): Allocation from institution's general fund resources for financial aid to students; effectively results in discounting of tuition rate.
