The County of Yuba is currently recruing for the flexibly staffed posion of Public Works Maintenance Worker I/II in the Public Works Department of the Community Development and Services Agency. Depending on background, experience and the needs of the department, the posion may be filled directly at the Public Works Maintenance Worker Il level. The primary responsibilies under this posion are to learn and perform semi-skilled and skilled work in the construcon, maintenance and repair of roads, bridges, rights of way, parks and related County infrastructure in a centralized or rural locaon; operate and perform basic maintenance and adjustment to light and heavy equipment in the performance of the work; install street and traffic signs for County roadways and perform related work as assigned. Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the construcon industry, including safety regulaons pertaining to the work; and have experience praccing safe work methods. The successful incumbent has the ability to develop and maintain cooperave working relaonships and excels in a team environment. They will also be movated and demonstrate iniave in their work. The ideal candidate will be comfortable operang a variety of vehicles and using tools related to the work. Qualificaons: Minimum Level I: Possess and maintain a valid Class C drivers license; graduaon from high school and one year of experience in public works, road or related maintenance work. Preferred Level I: Possess a valid California Class A or B drivers license with a tanker endorsement, graduaon from high school and two years of experience in public works, road or related maintenance work, preferably in a public seng. Minimum Level II: Graduaon from high school, a valid California Class A or B drivers license with a tanker endorsement and two years of public works, road or related maintenance experience with at least one year equivalent to the County's class of Public Works Maintenance Worker I. Preferred Level II: In addion to the minimum, a valid California Class A drivers license with a TN or X endorsement (tanker with hazardous materials placard); three years of experience in public works, road or related maintenance work which has included the operaon of heavy construcon equipment and some experience direcng the work of others. Work Environment: Work extended shiſts or be called back in emergency situaons. Exposure to all weather condions and machine noises. Work with exposure to potenally hazardous paints, chemicals, solvents, and sealants, exhaust fumes, or other potenally dangerous condions. Special Requirements: Must provide a current DMV printout upon offer of employment. Must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background invesgaon which includes Live Scan fingerprinng prior to hire. Must comply with U.S. Department of Transportaon regulaons as a Safety Sensiveor Safety Supporveclassificaon depending on license, including pre- employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post accident drug and alcohol tesng as a condion of employment. About the Public Works Department: The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining, repairing, designing, and construcng County roads, bridges, parks, and storm water drainage systems in accordance with local, state, and federal laws/standards, and in a manner that maximizes public safety. Due to the mountainous terrain in the eastern half of the County, road maintenance oſten includes snow plowing. The Yuba County Maintained Mileage for roads consists of 653 miles, 76 bridges (greater than 20’ in length), and numerous culverts/drainage structures. The department also reviews and approves land development projects as they relate to the County road, drainage, and park systems.
