Publish-It-Yourself Workshop
Start down the road toward making money from your writing by building self-sufficiency as a digital publisher and become a published author in six weeks. Learn to use the latest tools and methods to self-publish articles, eBooks, bound books, and blogs through a blend of classroom instruction and exercises, online research, and peer interaction.
Using the leading self-publishing system and best-selling resources you will be guided through the process of developing your words and pictures from an idea into a published work that will generate royalties within days. We will also walk through developing a budget for your project that goes from no-cost to low-cost. To maximize your benefit, you should be ready to take some existing idea you have for an article or book and publish it digitally, be comfortable using the Internet for research, email and social media and have experience with Microsoft Office or an equivalent.
Mike McCandless is a graduate of the Stanford University Professional Publishing Course and has held a variety of executive roles in publishing, marketing and sales. He is the founder of three publishing businesses including the Touchwood Press, which produces e-book and soft cover titles using Amazon and other digital publishing services.

What is a Book, Anyway? What is a book?In the Kindle era, it seems pretty obvious. There is an implicit argument in the act of digitizing a book and removing it from the shelf: a book is its text. A book is a unique string of words, as good as its bits. But printed books are also objects, manufactured objects, owned objects, objects that have been marked by pencils and time and coffee cups and the oils from our skin. "A book is more than a bag of words," the (Book Traces) project's founder, University of Virginia's Andrew Stauffer, told me. "These books as objects have a lot to tell us."Excerpted from “What Is a Book?” by Alexis C. Madrigal (The Atlantic, May 7, 2014)
