PUJYA SRI SWAMI DAYANANDA SARASWATI
Pujya Sri Swami Dayananda Saraswati was a distinguished, traditional
teacher of Vedanta. He was able to make one see, with immediacy, the
truth of oneself as the whole. A teacher of teachers, Swamiji designed
and taught six in-depth Vedanta courses, The graduates from these
courses are now acharyas, teaching around the world. More than two
hundred are sannyasis and are highly respected as scholars and teachers
throughout India and abroad. He founded four main institutes teaching
Vedanta, Yoga, Sanskrit, etc,.
ARSHA VIDYA GURUKULAM, ANAIKATTI
Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, Anaikatti is one of the four institutes. It is located about 25 Kms
from Coimbatore. Arsha Vidya Gurukulam is a place where one receives the knowledge
imparted by the Rishis. The Gurukulam was established in 1990 by Pujya Sri Swami
Dayananda Saraswati. The Gurukulam offers opportunities to study the Upanishads,
Bhagavad Gita, Brahmasutras and some other related texts.
Presently Swami Sadatmananda and Swami Shankarananda are continuing the teaching
tradition.
With the blessings of Lord Dakshinamurti and Pujya Swamiji the Thiruppani (renovation)
and Mahakumbhabhishekam at the Dakshinamurti and Kalyanasubramanya shrines in the
Gurukulam is to be conducted on 17thJune, 2018 under the able guidance of Sri Swami
Omkarananda Saraswati.
PUJYASRI OMKARANANDA MAHASWAMIGAL –
source of guidance and inspiration for the Kumbhabhishekam
Sri Swami Omkarananda, born in a family steeped in culture,
adopted the Vedic life style from an early age. He took his Sannyasa
from Pujyasri Swami Chidbhavananda, founder of Sri Ramakrishna
Tapovanam, Tirupparaithurai. He studied Vedanta under Pujyasri
Swami Paramarthananda, one of the foremost disciples of Pujyasri
Swami Dayananda Saraswati. Through his eloquent discourses, he
drives home the deep insights of the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads, such that even
an average person can comprehend them with ease. He expounds the essence of some of
the sacred texts in Tamil, such as Tevaram, Tiruvachakam, Tirumandiram, Tayumanavar’s
hymns, Bharatiyar’s songs and in particular Tirukural. He is actively engaged in many so-
cial activities, contributing to the wellbeing of the society through the two Trusts he has
set up – Vedanta Sasthra Prachara Trust and Sri Dakshinamurti Seva Samiti. He has taken
up the sacred mission of rejuvenating the spiritual values and cultural traditions of India.
He is the source of guidance and inspiration for the Kumbhabhishekam.

Purpose Of Kumbhabhishekam
“Only by consecration does even a traditionally sculpted idol
become an altar of worship. This procedure of consecration is
a series of steps of highly meaningful rituals and prayers.
After the consecration, the daily worship keeps an altar alive
with the presence of the Devata. Human omissions call for
Re-consecration every twelve years, the period that Jupiter
(Guru) takes to complete a full round of the Zodiac”
- Pujya Sri Swami Dayananda Saraswati
Kumbhabhishekam scripturally known as prathistha and prana
-prathistha is done according to agamic tradition. The
significance and the procedures of the Kumbhabhishekam are
explained here.
Prana-prathistha - Fixing the vigraha on the peetham and
invoking the deity in the fixed vigraha is known as Prathistha
and Prana-prathistha respectively. Shanti karmas and pushti
karmas are kriyas performed to eliminate the inauspiciousness
in the place, vigraha, and materials and also to bring forth the
auspiciousness in them.
Some of the significant rituals are as follows:
Anujna – Seeking permission and blessings from the lord,
bramanas, to do the entire kumbhabhishekam successfully
Vastu shanti, Pravesha bali and Rakshoghna Homam are
done to eliminate the invisible inauspiciousness of the land and
requesting certain devatas to protect the land.
Ankurarpanam is sowing the seeds for sprouting. The growth
of the sprouts indicates whether the karma is done well or not.
Kala-akarshanam – An act of invoking the deity from the
vigraha by vedic mantras to the kumbham.
Yaga-shala-rituals – A puja done to the deity in the kumbha
and in the agni in the yagashala for all the Parivara Devatas.
The pujas can be done for a span of 2 days to 27 days
Ashtabandanam - Subsequent to the completion of yaga-shala
rituals for the prescribed days, the invoked devata vigraha with
ashta-bandhanam materials and associated rituals is fixed on
the peetham.
Kumbhabhishekam – Reinvoking the devata deity from the
kumbha to the vigraha is done on the completion day of the
yaga-shala puja with abhishekam.
