The heartthrob of IMTN!Issue 5, December 2010
As the end of the year approaches, people are like flies at the beginning of winter. Having lost their agility,
dreamy and demented, they turn slowly about the window in the first icy mists of morning and fall down the
curtains. But for IMTians, its again time for sleepless nights, never-ending group discussions and frequentvisits to the canteen in the bone chilling cold as the project submission dates & exams are round the corner...

International Case Conference
(ICC2010), Goa
When you think of case studies, what
names come to mind first Harvard? Ivey?Emerald? This is not surprising since most
Indian B-Schools rely on cases created by
such Ivy-league foreign B-Schools to aid
our curriculum. This trend is not due to
lack of caseswe do have plenty of organi-zations who have succeeded or failed ingrowing/ reinventing themselves, provid-
ing plenty of food for thought to us. Rather,
it is because very few Indian faculties have
taken to writing case studies for theirclasses.
Today, the world of management acade-
mia has recognized the need for Indian
case writing to take off and build itself into
a strong force in this arena so that we have
quality Indian cases to help us in class dis-cussions. In tandem with this develop-
ment, IMT Nagpur conducted its first-ever
International Case Conference in Goa, be-
tween November 16-18, 2010. The confer-
ence, with its niche theme was well-attended by over a hundred delegates
who were academicians and researchers
from B-Schools all over the country andvery well-received. Our Director Dr. Nar-
gundkar, Dr. Jayasimha and Dr. Halve
were the Conference Chairs.
There were different tracks for the various
streamsMarketing, OB & HR, Finance, IT,
members from the premier B-Schools of India. These in-
cluded Prof. Laxminarasimha from IBS Bangalore, Dr.
Sourav Mukherjee from IIM B, Dr. Ranjeet Nambudiri from
IIM I, Dr. P Saravanan from IIM Shillong, Dr. S Ghai from KJ
Som, Prof. Neeraj Dwivedi from IIM L, Dr. N Chowdhary
from Aegis Global Academy and Profs. Nargundkar,
Jayasimha, Halve, Mitra and Phatate from IMT Nagpur.
There was also a track for first time case writers.
The format of the conference was the most attractive andeffective part there were no Powerpoint presentationswere nobody would be listening to the speaker except the
panelists. Instead, based on the stream, each track com-
prised 7-8 participants and one track Chair who would sit
around a table. The cases of each track were mailed to all
the participants a prioryso the round table discussion pro-ceeded very well with one-on-one feedback not only from
the Chair but also from fellow delegates.

Marque and Envision rise with Phoenix
For the very first time, two IMT forums Envision and
Marque came up with Phoenix: a game whichinvolved the magic of cinema and the fun of Marketing
with the goal of challenging people with the Marketing
of movies.
The game comprised two rounds. In the first round, the
teams had to complete a crossword puzzle related to
movies with the help of clues that were placed at
different sites in the campus, and the evening came
alive with the participants thundering from the faculty
residence to the main gate and haggling with thesecurity folk for clues! Teams of three were
formed and the first eight teams that came up with the
right solution to the puzzle were promoted to thesecond round.
In the second round the teams had to select a movie of
their choice and prepare a marketing strategy for the
same. The strategies were evaluated on basis of their
effectiveness, reasonableness and sale ability. Team
Bob which was represented by Nitin, Dolly and Jaya
were declared Winners whereas Ganja & Co.
comprising of Pradyumna, Priyank and Shivang
became Runners-up.
Kudos, Finaholics!
Mr. Ajit Banerjee, Vice President Finance and
Investments, Bharti AXA General Insurance Company
Limited had recently visited the Institute and
addressed the student managers on the evolving face
of the investment scenario in India including changes
in the financial markets and measures by regulatory
bodies and their impact on institutional investment
strategies on the eve of Finance Conclave Arth-Vyuh
2010. Mr. Banerjee in his note appreciated the team
members of the Finance Forum for their commitment
towards the purpose, harmony and coordination within
the team. He was very impressed with the hospitality
and courtesy extended to him during his visit. He also
anticipated participating in many more such future
programs to come.
IMTweets!
Woof_Woof: Hot debate raging on Google Groups
regarding IMTs numerous vulpine friends! Some love
them, some love to hate them... even as the dispute
progresses, the number of doggy Romeos pining after
Co-op leftovers has considerably dwindled are they
subscribed to the Google Groups too?
Beer_Belly: There was a temporary respite from the
mess(y) food when our canteen-wallahs attempted a
tie-up with Mustard, Kathi Roll Junction & other food
outlets to provide their menu on-campus. But like
many other ventures begun with stone and fire, this
too ended with a hiss and smoke, leaving many
IMTians in a mess (pun intended).
