GENERAL INFORMATION

The pulverizer is designed to immediately follow roughgrading by a motor grader or bulldozer. The pulverizer

is also an excellent companion tool to a rollover,box-type scraper or utility blade for the purpose of scar-ifying hard clay or loamy soils.

The pulverizer may be used with either constant draftcontrol or implement position control stops. Normally, itis better to use implement position control during theinitial portion of the job, especially when the pulverizeris operated in reverse. When the finished gradebecomes more established, switching to control draftwill speed up the work. Experiment with both settingsto determine the best method for your particular appli-cation.

ATTACHING PULVERIZER TO TRACTOR

1. Place the pulverizer on a level, dry area, positionedbehind the tractor. Connect pulverizer mountingpins to tractor lower arms.

2. Secure mounting pins to lift arms with 7/16 x 1-3/4"lynch pins.

3. Connect the tractor top link to the pulverizer uppermast.

NOTE: Initial adjustment of the top link must bemade on a level surface.

4. Rest scarifier teeth on the ground and level the pul-verizer by extending or retracting the top link.

5. Carefully operate the pulverizer through the trac-tor’s full lift range, making sure pulverizer does notcome into contact with any tractor component.

6. Adjust top link if necessary.

ADJUSTING TOP LINK

Top link adjustment is critical to the pulverizer’s perfor-mance. The unit can be pitched either forward or rear-ward, depending on the soil conditions and jobrequirements.

You will need to experiment to determine the best set-ting for the job being performed.

For normal conditions, the pulverizer should beadjusted in a level position. This is especially usefulwhen finish leveling and back filling.

When excessive debris or hard scarifying conditionsexist, pitch the pulverizer forward to optimize perfor-mance.

Pitching the pulverizer rearward will optimize rolleraction and assist in over-seeding applications.

Operation 11MAN0130 (Rev. 11/11/2005)

ADJUSTING ROLLER SPRINGThe roller springs are assembled loose at the factoryfor normal operating conditions. For abnormal operat-ing conditions, you may want to make the adjustmentsin the chart below. Compressing springs 1 inch will put100 pounds of pressure on the primary roller. Adjustingsecondary roller springs 1/2 inch will put an additional100 pounds of pressure on that roller.

SCARIFIER TEETH SETTING

The 8" scarifying teeth are set at the factory at 3-1/2"below the H-beam flange.

Do not lower the spikes, this will result in additionalstrain and cause excess scarifying before leveling andgrading.

OPERATING TIPS

CONDITION ADJUSTMENT

Hard, tight clay Additional spring tension

Loamy, loose soil No adjustment

Loose, sandy soil Run with no tension on roller

DIRECTION ACTION APPLICATION

Forward Straight line General purpose pulverizing

Long arcs For seeding, dressing out soil during final seedbed preparation, and stockpiling debris into a single pile

Short, tight arcs For hard, tight clay conditions; centrifugal force applied to roller pins will allow faster pulverizing

Reverse Clod breaking & pulverizing Improves clod breaking, especially with SU models

Leveling Scarifier teeth promote even, ideal seedbed

Backfilling Light backfilling around foundations and sidewalks

PROCEDURE ACTION ADVANTAGE

Grading Grade at 90° angles Helps eliminate swells and valleys. Establishes grade lines more quickly

Humps Pull humps into low places close to the area being pulverized

Saves time
