DESCRIPTION

Rotary Club of Melbourne Park's International Committee is setting up a water pump project initiative for communities in Pakistan. The aim of this project is is to build a relationship with the Rotary Club of Karachi Metropolitan for the installation of water pumps in the Tharparkar Region of Pakistan. Establishing the water pumps will facilitate a positive development of the region and provide a much needed source of water for the surrounding villages. OBJECTIVE

To build a relationship with the Rotary Club of Karachi Metropolitan for the installation of water pumps in the Tharparkar Region of Pakistan.

Establishing water pumps will facilitate a positive development of the region and provide a much needed source of water for the surrounding villages.

Positive Aspects of Tharparkar

Peaceful co-existence of communities.

Very low crime rate.

Rainfall is rare and precious but when it does rain, it transforms Tharparkar into a glimpse of paradise.

Water for Survival

50% of the area of sub soil water is brackish, brackish water is water that has a salinity level between freshwater and seawater.

Main source of livelihood depends on rain water (people store rain water in ponds and dug wells for drinking purposes).

In sweet water areas, the water table has fallen very low, many permanent wells have also dried up.

During drought, parts of the population migrates to barrage- irrigated Sindh region.

Establish a strong relationship with the RC of Karachi and implement the Water Pump Project successfully.

Create awareness about this issue and project through an event.
