What is being done differently
Condition survey (including small dams) carried out immediately after flood to identify repair needs
Operation of wetting channels to test safety of bunds
Third party assessment of condition of flood protection works
Deployment of earth moving machinery at critical reaches: deployment plan for 241 excavators, 121 dozers, 240 dump trucks and 762 tractor trolleys prepared; to be implemented after flood warning
Deployment of police to prevent unauthorized breaches
Similarly, all emergent flood works executed under resident supervision of third party monitors (Barqab)
54 No. sand bag filling machins have been handed over to flood dealing Divisions to cater for the emergency during flood period.

POINTS TO PONDER:-
Clearance of waterways of bridges and culverts by Pak Railways, NHA, Pak PWD, C&W Department and respective district governments
Removal of encroachments, especially Zamindara Bunds, by district governments
The issue of NHA and Railway bridges creating afflux is required to be discussed and resolved at Federal Government level regarding Alexandra, Rewaz and Shershah Bridges
Provision and strengthening of second defence line and wetting channels
New bench-marks regarding HFL, free board, design of the embankment and safety measures for flood protection infrastructure should be adopted
