2 "I know I can lose 30 pounds in less than a week," said Sue to her purchasing boss.

"You've got to be kidding," her boss exclaimed. "I'll give you a $2.00 an hour raise if you pull it off." "No problem!" Sue said with a infectious smile. "I'll be back in a week, Ron and I are going shopping in England."

AMERICAN Dry STRIPPING

A merican Dry Stripping has been in business since 1982. This dry abrasive media blasting and stripping company is the leading rust, corrosion,

coating, surface and profile preparation company in the Northeast. For 33 years American Dry Stripping has been working with machine shops, fabricators, industrial manufacturers, automotive restorers, metal sculptors and do-it-yourselfers to prepare products for a 'look-like-new-again' surface finish. Their customers tell them that American Dry Stripping is home to some of the “best stripping in the Northeast.” The team of professionals at American Dry Stripping has more than 100 years of combined experience and knowledge in the surface preparation process. If you are asking yourself what's so special about sandblasting? STOP right there! Yes, abrasive media blasting and stripping is often thought and referred to by many as “sandblasting.” Sandblasting is rarely used today because companies such as American Dry Stripping have helped the knowledge to evolve with far superior surfaces resulting in vastly improved finishes.

Simple Beginnings American Dry Stripping was launched in 1982 when the Jones boys -- Gary, Walter and Russell -- began operations in Fairfield, CT. They were devoted automotive geeks and specialized in stripping cars. They built a solid reputation for quality workmanship and attention to detail and superior customer service. Others saw their fine work and the business expanded into industry, artwork and other customer needs. In 2012, Roger Van Brussel, president and owner, bought the business when Walter and Russell Jones retired. Gary Jones stayed on as Chief Operations Officer/Director of Production to help take American Dry Stripping to its next level of growth. Roger had previous experience in industrial sandblasting in a Newport, R.I. bridge project and jumped at the opportunity of expanding American Dry Stripping's place in the market place. Roger started developing his goals for the company and found that he and Gary Jones had a lot in common and were going to push it forward together. Customers The secret to great finish on any surface is correct and quality preparation. Customers have trusted this stage of the process to American Dry Stripping for 33 years. Customers making the choice to invest not only their professional service are also choosing a company that uses only professional-grade blasting and stripping equipment.

American Dry Stripping serves customers and clients across New England, New York and along the eastern seaboard. Customers come to them with parts large and small, with bulk industrial parts, automotive needs, art, home and garden and more. American Dry Stripping follows SSPC/NACE specifications for blasting and stripping work projects and employs stringent internal quality control processes that meet their customers’ requirements. American Dry Stripping is equipped with large to small booths to handle a wide variety of jobs. Industrial American Dry Stripping works also with manufacturing and industrial clients, preparing parts in the early phase of surface cleaning, preparation and profiling in the manufacturing process, prior to downstream surface finishing. American Dry Stripping uses only professional, industrial-grade equipment, environmentally friendly media, and the correct mix of nozzle pressure, angle, distance from target and media combinations. This ensures the abrasive blasting process is highly effective and precise. The blasters can strip and clean any type of metal or fiberglass part. Not all fiberglass and metals respond the

same to one type of abrasive media blasting, so the expert blasters at American Dry Stripping always make sure to use the most effective blasting and stripping method and media available. Automotive At any given time at American Dry Stripping you’ll find fascinating or exotic cars on the production line or in the work queue. Ferraris, Astons, and exotics like Spanish Pegaso or Italian Stanguellini vintage racers and cars belonging to famous collectors have crossed their threshold. "From family projects to professional restoration shops, we work on legendary cars in the first stages of restoration, and in some cases, resurrection, like the ugly duckling turning into a beautiful swan." "No matter who owns a car, no matter the price tag, once in our shop we treat and care for it as if it were our own," Roger said. This philosophy coupled with years of experience and expertise is the reason most of the automotive projects through their doors are referrals. "Yup…we don’t make waves!!"

American Dry Stripping has a 24’ enclosed trailer for convenient, protected transportation of stripped vehicles.

Metalwork Metalwork includes work in areas other than industrial and automotive. It may be precision work or clean up work like simple outdoor furniture. They have seen everything from milk cans to towering sundials and more. Here are just a few samples of how they might help your company:

If you have parts that have oxidization on them, they can remove that oxidation so the final finish can be restored.

They can remove coatings or paints if it needs to be re-finished.

Got a machine tool (current or classic) that needs to be degreased, or stripped for re-finishing? They can do it.

Have show piece part needs for presentation they can prepare the surface to make your final product really shine.

Pitted metal can't be removed; however, they can remove the rust from the pits for long lasting repair.

Inside American Dry Stripping Since its inception, the team has grown to 11 full-time professionals, many who have been with the company for 10 years or more.

Inside the facility, the blasting/stripping production line includes two large blasting booths, a parts blast booth, as well as multiple media specific blasting cabinets. Two high-volume, heavy-duty Ingersoll-Rand rotary screw air compressors deliver the compressed air that powers the production line. These are coupled to an Ingersoll-Rand air dryer with oil-water separators that remove all particulate matter, delivering absolute dry, clean air to the blast hose nozzles. The blasters at American Dry Stripping primarily employ four media types: “Jet-Mag” or olivine, plastic, glass bead, and aluminum oxide, using varying grit sizes and combinations based on the requirements of the project. This base arsenal of media types meets the needs of 99% of the work projects. These are the media of choice after 30 years of exploring options and testing for optimal combinations. Beyond Blasting In addition to blasting equipment, American Dry Stripping has an EPA-approved burn-off furnace for efficient, cost-effective removal of a range of surface coatings along with grease and oil contaminants that impregnate steel or iron surfaces. American Dry Stripping maintains a temperature and humidity controlled clean-dry room as the “waiting room” for completed projects until picked up by the customer.

Tony, one of American Dry Stripping's professional blasters, works on a small object in a blasting cabinet.

A professional blaster works inside a blasting booth on a larger piece of work.

American Dry Stripping has additional storage separated from the production area, where they queue cars and large parts next in line for blasting and stripping. They also offer limited winter car storage on a first-come, first-served basis. American Dry Stripping's facility is in Milford, CT. It is readily accessible from I-95 or the Merritt Parkway. "So when you have been 'the best stripper in the Northeast'

for over 30 years and have watched legions of blasting and stripping companies come and go as our own Mr. Gary Jones, founder of American Dry Stripping has, you know there is so much more to surface stripping and preparation than pushing grit out of a nozzle under pressure at a hard surface," said Roger. Every day is interesting and fun at American Dry Stripping. They are honored to work with products in the first stages of their new life. For over 30 years, their reputation has been built on ensuring the work is done right, completed on time, with superior attention to detail and customer service and at a fair and competitive price.

Old machinery such as this lathe can be brought back to its original beauty, starting with expert dry abrasive blasting

Sick Day

I saw an item on the internet that claimed male obesity has been linked to a virus.

That evening my wife came home after a long hard day in the office and asked, "Did you happen to read the newspaper today? There is an article tying overweight people to some type of virus!"

"Yep, didn't read the paper but caught it on the internet. I do believe I'll be too sick tomorrow to work and I'll call in fat."

PRESS RELEASE

INSTALLMENT 3 PRECISION ALIGNMENT from: Top 6 Tactics to Prevent Machine Failure

GTI Predictive Technology, Inc. submitted this interesting press release to help keep machinery in better running condition. We're presenting the information on these 6 steps in installments as space allows. But we feel here at The Gateway this is valuable information,

perhaps just a reminder, that we can get far more from our machinery if we take an active position.

Precision Alignment “Industry worldwide is losing billions of dollars a year due to misalignment of machinery” -John Piotrowski Misalignment is the #1 cause for machine failure. Misalignment occurs when the centerlines of two shafts are not co-linear. Misalignment destroys bearings, seals, couplings, rotors, stators, shafts, etc. Misalignment of the driving and driven shaft(s) in a machine train adds stress forces to the shafts, which are

transferred to the bearings, seals, etc. These forces work against all of these components to reduce the productive life of the machine. Misalignment will

also create high levels of vibration and friction. This can result in excess heat that can reduce the effectiveness of the lubricant. Excess vibration will result in shorter machine life and, in some cases, poor product quality resulting in scrap and waste.

Misalignment can be diagnosed using vibration analysis tools. There are distinct patterns that reveal the presence of misalignment.

Angular misalignment is characterized by high axial vibration caused by the push/pull movement of the misaligned shafts. Offset misalignment is characterized by high radial vibration. Misalignment typically appears in the spectrum at 1 times and 2 times running speed. There are many programs that still insist that a straight edge is sufficient for aligning two machines at the coupling. This may be acceptable for a rough alignment, but it is no replacement for a precision alignment tool.Dial indicators can be a precise way to align shafts, but you must be well trained in the methods and the math. Laser alignment tools are a faster alternative to dial indicators. They are easy to learn with the proper training. Laser tools take the guesswork out of the alignment process by displaying the offset and angle of the shafts and calculating the necessary moves to correct the problem. While dial indicators are less expensive, laser tool kit prices have been coming down and are now a very affordable alternative.

Whatever tool you choose to use to correct misalignment, you still need to get alignment training. The tools are only measuring units. They show the misalignment and the necessary corrections, but they don’t align the machine.

Good alignment training includes more than just the how and when and why of using the measuring tool. Good training teaches the fundamentals, math and theory of misalignment, as well as, good strategies to use to align machines of all sizes and includes hands-on training. Make sure your trainer has real world alignment experience.

Good documentation is important in alignment. It is a record of who performed the alignment, when it was done and how well it was done. Documentation will also point out where additional training is required. Proper documentation should be electronic to prevent anyone from altering the document.

The commitment for alignment is to do it every time a machine is installed and make it a regular preventative maintenance step when machines are inspected. A quick alignment measurement can save a lot of headaches down the road.

PRESS RELEASE DTi Seals and Trim Approved by UL as Recognized Components EPDM rubber trims and edge seals certified to rigorous UL50 and UL50E standards

Southborough, MA February 18, 2015– Device Technologies, Inc. (DTi), a leader in the design and manufacture

of enclosure related and environmental protection components, announced today that Underwriters Labs (UL) has approved its Seal-Fast™ Door Seals and Trim-Fast™ Edge Trim for EPDM gasketing materials to the stringent UL50 and UL50E standards. Thanks to this Recognized Component designation, any finished product that uses these seals and trim automatically now receives a significant quality upgrade, creating greater value for their customers.

The new certification is especially important to companies needing performance materials that comply with NEMA standards to protect critical equipment like Telco switches, data center racks and chassis, and routers. In addition, DTi seals and trim are used on truck bodies and enclosures for generators and inverters and other applications in environments ranging from back office to rugged mobile shelters for the military.

“We are committed to responding to our customers’ demands by delivering the highest quality equipment protection,” said Nick Petri, DTi President. “Having our components listed on UL Yellow Cards provides a valuable enhancement to our customers’ brands and further validates our commitment to our ISO and AS Quality System, and ongoing Continuous Improvement program.”

The Seal-Fast Edge Seal “D” Series EPDM provides a clean, fast method to protect equipment in a variety of industries from dust, wide temperature variations, and moisture. The Trim-Fast “S” Series Edge Trim for EPDM offers superior protection from wire and cable abrasion for critical equipment.

DTi’s high performance, top quality enclosure and edge protection offers customers an affordable way to upgrade existing equipment with UL-certified components. Using UL listed components saves both time and money since the material itself has already been qualified and eliminates the need for further testing. It also enhances compliance and can minimize liability exposure in case of disaster such as a major fire.

Did you ever taste a cup of Arbuckle Coffee? It was without question one of the best cups of coffee on the market at one time. But, the Arbuckle board of directors met in 1963 and decided their coffee was so superior that they drafted and ap-proved a policy to never spend a cent on advertising, and to keep the money for the stockholders. That's why today, there are very few people who remember Arbuckle Coffee. On the other hand.... a soft drink company made a policy decision to invest 2.5% of the profits from every bottle of soft drink sold, to advertising. You've heard of, and know, the successful company as Coca Cola.
