First Responder Network Authority

First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) is a broadband LTE network being set up in the United States that provides first-responders with network priority during emergencies

• AT&T contracted by U.S. Federal Government to set up and run network

• Over 600,000 subscribers across 7,250 first responder agencies [1]

• All devices must receive FirstNet ReadyTM certification

• Currently only 102 approved devices, most of them consumer-grade hardware

• LMR systems are compatible on FirstNet but expensive to build and upgrade

• Small first responder agencies can be faced with unaffordable infrastructure and hardware costs
