Putative example of eukaryote-to-eukaryote horizontal gene transfer (HGT). This gene tree suggests that the acetolactate synthase (ALS, or AHAS) gene encoded in the nuclear genomes of oomycetes has been obtained, at some time in the past, from Fungi. Oomycetes are Stramenopiles whereas Fungi belong to the Opistokont lineage of eukaryotic evolution. Shown here is an uncommon example of eukaryote-to-eukaryote HGT involving multicellular organisms.
