• Learning Intentions

• I can classify plants into seed producing and non-seed producing.

• I can further classify plants into one of 5 classes (conifers, flowering plants, ferns, mosses, algae).

• Success Criteria

• I can contribute to a class discussion to sort pictured animals into groups

• Looking at the displays I can pick out wrongly classified organisms and explain my choices in terms of common features of that group

• I can contribute to a small group card sort to help put the pictured organisms into a branched classification key.

We can split plants into 5 main groups

Some of these are very similar

Plants that have flowers

Conifers

Ferns

Algae

Mosses

Flowering plants

1. Have flowers

2.Make seeds

3.Have veins in leaves

4.Have roots and stems

Conifers

1. Don’t have flowers

2.Make seeds on cones

3.Leaves are needle shaped

4.Have roots and veins

Ferns

1. No flowers or cones

2.Make spores on bottom of leaves

Mosses

1. Live in shady moist places

2.Are very small

3.Don’t make seeds

4.Make spores
