Pvt. Joseph Murphy Distribution Clerk
Private Joseph J. Murphy of Melrose, Iowa is serving as a distribution clerk with the 2602nd Publications Depot in the
Mediterranean Theater of Operations.
The 2602nd Publications Depot distributes new and revised War Department publication to units and installations
within the theater. The unit provides a central agency for the consolidation and submission of requisitions to the zone
of interior which may be required in this theater. Most of the men in this organization are former combat soldiers.
Overseas 23 months, Pvt. Murphy wears the Mediterranean Theater Ribbon with three Battle Participation stars and
has been awarded the Good Conduct Medal.

Joseph Murphy
Josephy Murphy, 74, of the Albia Manor died there Jan. 14.
He was born at Melrose on April 24, 1907, the son of Patrick and Catherine Herlihy Murphy. He was a postal worker
in Chicago, Ill. from 1944 until 1969 when he retired and moved to Georgetown. He had been a resident of, the Albia
Manor since September 1981.. He was a member of the American Legion in Chicago, Ill., and had served in the U.S.
Army in World War II.
He is survived by one brother, David Murphy of Knoxville.
The funeral was 2 p.m. Saturday at St.. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose with the Revs. Philip Cardenzana and Paul
Donahue officiating. Burial was in Mt Calvary Cemetery in Melrose.
The rosary was 8 p.m.- Friday at Humeston-Gilbert Funeral Home.
