KCPS Parents, Our students are well underway in planning for their upcoming Student Led Conference with you. This week you will receive an invitation from your child/ren which has been planned, drafted and published by them. This Student Led Conference will allow your child to: - talk with you about the work they are proud of and want to celebrate!

- share their learning journey within different curriculum areas

- talk about their achievements and learning goals

- be an active participant in this conversation, building responsibility in reflecting on their learning within a positive and encouraging environment Over our two allocated nights you will also have the opportunity to engage in a Student Led Conference whereby your child can share their learning from their specialists’ classes. Our French, Art, Music and P.E teachers have been working to prepare each level for these conferences which will have a ‘Teach the Parent’ format. This option is available to you at the times below:

As a support for our parent community in making this change, we invite you to a Positive Partnership Session about Student Led Conferences and your role as a parent, on Monday 18th June at 9am, with an afternoon session also beginning at 2.30pm. This forum will allow us to share this new approach with you and to answer any questions you may have. We are very excited as to the potential benefits for you as our parent community and for our students! Thank you. Blayne Wallis Assistant Principal

Birthdays and Celebrations We are more than happy to help celebrate children’s birthdays and other celebrations at school as we recognise that these are special days for students. We ask that cupcakes only be provided rather than a traditional birthday cake or lolly bags. Please ensure that there are enough cupcakes for each child in the grade and, of course, one for the teacher! As some children will not be able to participate for dietary, medical or personal reasons cupcakes must be given to the classroom teacher to distribute. PLEASE ENSURE ALL FOOD BROUGHT TO SCHOOL IS NUT FREE AS WE HAVE SEVERAL CHILDREN WITH SEVERE ALERGIES TO NUTS AND NUT PRODUCTS.

SCHOOL FEES – Final instalment A reminder to families that the final instalment of book pack fees $116.25 per child is due by the end of term, Friday the 29th of June. For those who have set up their payment plan through Compass, this amount will automatically be deducted from your nominated bank account, please ensure funds are available to support the payment.

This term we have been using the STEAM room to inquire into the Year 2 unit on how climates vary and influence where and how people live their lives. During this unit, students were engaged in a number of science experiments that have enhanced their understanding and connection to key concepts within the unit.

.

Learning how to use equipment in the STEAM room responsibly and enjoying being hands on.

Next term we have STEAM week to look forward to. This year’s theme is “Game Changers and Change makers”. Keep an eye out for further information about the exciting things that will be happening over this week at KCPS. This week will also feature our STEAM night which was a huge success last year. This is a night where parents/guardians and students come to the school to engage in different STEAM based learning. It is a great opportunity to enjoy the world of science with your children.

Year 6 students will soon be undertaking a study tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The $30 funding has already been deducted from the total price parents/guardians have been asked to pay. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the study tour. If you have any questions, please see Jane Poloni (Year 6 Team Leader) or Lindy Bracey in the office.

THE 3-6 ATHLETICS CARNIVAL On Monday the 4th of June 2018, Kororoit Creek held their first ever off campus Athletics Carnival. There were many competitors in all track and field events as well as house supporters cheering on their teams. The day was a huge success as we were lucky enough to have fantastic weather. We would like to thank all the parents and teachers for helping as the day run smoothly. It was great to see all students getting involved whether it be in events or cheering on the sidelines. We would also like to make a special mention to The Gnarly Brew Coffee for providing us with great coffee throughout the day and to Bridge Road Athletics for allowing us to use their facilities. We look forward to announcing the Athletics Team for 2018 and getting training up and running before Divisional Competitions in Term Three.

Well done to Leichhardt who won overall!!!

Keilor Division X-Country Tournament

On Wednesday the 6th of June, KCPS had 27 students compete in the Keilor Divisional X-Country Tournament. Students were faced with the challenges of long distances, large hills and fierce competition! They all pushed themselves to their absolute limit and should all be very proud of the way they’ve raced and trained over the last three months. Making it to this stage of the competition is a huge achievement in itself. Students who finished in the top 12 progressed through to the Western Metropolitan Competition which will be ran on the 21st of June.

District Boys Soccer Tournament On Wednesday the 13th of June, 14-year six boys represented KCPS in the District Boys Soccer Tournament. With the girls having great success at their tournament the week before, it gave the boys that extra motivation to play at their best. Thankfully, the rain had stayed away and the competition could begin. Our first game of the tournament ended in a draw against Cairnlea Primary School. The boys were very happy with their performance, as they knew through Interschool Sports that Cairnlea was a very strong team. Our second game was also a draw this time coming against Deer Park West, which set us up for an exciting third game. Our third game was played against Kings Park Primary School where we ended up being winners 2-0. Unfortunately, although we did not lose a game, the one win was not enough for us to advance to the grand final match. The KCPS boys did an

excellent job to finish 3rd for the day, and all players should be extremely happy with the way they represented the school with not only the way they played, but also their sportsmanship. Overall, the day was a great success and it was extremely pleasing to see all students mingle with students from other schools while watching the grand final, as well as shaking hands and cheering for each other after each game. It was a great day all round. KCPS 2018 BOYS SOCCER TEAM (Left - Right) Yeshak, Antonio, Noah, Prathm, Rashad, Dean V, Filip, Abram, Thomas, Dean A, Brian, Adem, Jordan, Jamel

Girls Soccer Tournament

On Thursday the 7th of June, a squad of 14 girls competed in the 2018 District girls soccer tournament. The team played four games and they were very competitive. In the first game of the tournament, it ended up as a draw. We scored our first goal in game two, winning 2 - 1 against Deer Park North. During the third game, KCPS scored three brilliant goals, winning the match 3 - 1 earning us a place in the grand final against Derrimut.

The grand final was intense. Both teams played exceptionally well but KCPS scored the winning goal in the second half. Derrimut had some good chances but Kororoit Creek’s goal keeper was too hard to beat. Kororoit Creek had won the grand final 1 - 0 and are going through to the divisional round in July. Well done girls and good luck for the next tournament!

1st goal of the tournament! Lost Property We have some glasses and a medal that have been handed in at the office earlier this year – if you recognise any of these items please come to the office to collect them. A lot of lost property is collected throughout the term and we do our best to get labelled items back to their owners. Unfortunately some lost property does not have a name on it. Without a name we are unable to return these items to their owner. Please label uniform items, lunchboxes, drink bottles etc before they’re brought to school.
