Big bold masthead to stand out and attract the target audience. The colours of red and white stand out and keep a consistent house style throughout the front page.

Header informs the reader about special articles in the magazine.

The main image is a medium long shot of a boy band. This shows the reader that it is aimed at a male gender. The expression on their faces are serious and their clothing is simple. This shows that it is aimed at a young audience.

The date of issue and price is on the magazine, the price tells the reader what sort of audience it is aimed at and how often it is released.

The cover lines are big and bold and the font follows the house style to keep it consistent. Also the use of capital letters makes it sound like its shouting out at you therefore it also attracts more attention.

The main cover line is bigger and more bold than the other cover lines, this shows that it’s the most important information in the magazine. It has also followed the colour scheme of red and white so it stand out and draws more attention to the magazine.

Rule of thirds has been used to keep the magazine organised and looking professional.

The music related images show that it’s a music magazine and target the younger audience.

The use of a plain white background makes the magazine look more serious and simple.

This is an image lead contents page. This shows the audience the main attraction of the magazine. The image also tells the audience that it’s a rock/ indie magazine as the clothes the woman is wearing are black and she is very pale, which fits in the black and white house style.

The colour scheme is red, black and white, this connotes that its more of a rock/ indie magazine and it also keeps a consistent house style. The main headings on the page are in white and red so they stand out on the black background and make it eye catching.

The mode of address Is informal which connotes that the magazine is aimed at a young audience.

This tells the audience about the magazine and what happens every month so they can subscribe or sign up to it.

the rule of thirds has been used on the page to keep the layout clear and easy for the reader to understand. The text also goes around the main image which attracts attention to the reader.

The quote on the page tells the reader a part of the article that will interest them so they read on.

The main headline takes up half of the page to attracts attention and the “ cash for questions” is in red which follows the house style. The name “ Mariah Carey” is written in big bold capital letters, which also follows the house style and what she is wearing in the picture.

Her expression is friendly which connotes that the article is about her personal life and will attract the target audience

The Stan first is used to briefly introduce the article.

Mode of address is inform as it’s an interview and questions from fans are being asked. This helps the reader connect with the text and make it sound direct.

Drop capital introduces the article and follows the house style.

• Q magazine is an alternative music magazine.

• It is published monthly in the UK.

• It's publishing company is Bauer Consumer Media (Emap).

• Mark Ellen and David Hepworth founded the magazine because they felt it was a niche market as there wasn't a magazine for the older generation who were still buying CD's.

• Q was first published in 1986 and was different from other magazines due to it's high quality photography and printing, as well as having an older target audience.
