Scope

This document describes the assembly of a Stress system. It is designed to be used as a whole for the installation process or in part as a troubleshooting tool for ensuring correct connection, configuration, and functioning of the Stress system. Because the Stress system can be purchased in different configurations and with different options, your system’s feature set may be different from the feature set shown in this document.

Read all instructions before you begin the installation process. Follow the instructions in the order given. If you have any questions regarding execution of these instructions, contact technical support at:

Hardware Connections

 Caution. The following cautions apply:

The computer, monitor, preamp, and printer must be plugged into the isolation transformer. The preamp and printer must be plugged into the A outlets and the computer and monitor (or computer and power strip on units equipped with the optional external hard disk) must be plugged into the B outlets.

*Connect the optional external hard drive to the Stress system using a power strip. Refer to the instructions provided with the external hard drive for proper connection.

*Do not plug any other components into the power strip on units equipped with the optional external hard disk.

The isolation transformer must be plugged into a dedicated circuit.

The treadmill must be plugged into a dedicated circuit.

*You cannot connect both a laser printer and an optional external hard drive on the same system.

If the preamp is mounted on the treadmill handrail, it should be mounted perpendicular to the treadmill belt to avoid damaging the unit when the treadmill is inclined.

Use of an uninterruptable power supply (optional) If you use an uninterruptable power supply (UPS), insert it between the isolation transformer and the computer and monitor. See the system configuration block diagram (Figure 1).

WARNING! Electronic interference.

The preamp can be mounted on the treadmill handrail, placed on the floor, or located in another convenient spot. It should be installed in a location that removes the patient cable from close proximity to power cords, transformers, or other power lines connected devices to minimize noise pick-up.

System configuration The block diagram (Figure 1) shows a typical configuration and suggested locations for plugging in the various system hardware components. Your system will be similar but may not be identical to the configuration shown. If you have questions about connecting components, contact technical support.

WARNING! Electronic interference. Grounding reliability can be achieved only when equipment is connected to a properly-grounded receptacle. Ensure that the isolation transformer is connected to this type of electrical outlet.

Figure 1: Stress system components Note: There is a power switch on the front of the computer that must be pressed to boot up the computer. Turn off the computer by shutting down Windows. Use the QRS Sync to connect a blood pressure monitor to the system (rather than one of the Analog Outputs). Make a note of which ports are used to connect the treadmill, ergometer, and blood pressure monitor. You will need this information to configure the Stress software. Attach the service card and plastic sleeve to the video cable using the supplied wire ties. The HASP® (or dongle) attaches to the computer’s parallel port.

Caution. Improper voltage. The ergometer exercise device may not be self switching. Refer to the ergometer user guide for proper voltage adjustment setting.

Caution. Treadmill communication. Power Management should be disabled for USB ports to prevent USB ports from being powered down. This is beneficial for maintaining communication with the treadmill. To configure Q-Stress with USB power management disabled, select Power Options, then Advanced settings, then USB settings and set USB selective suspend setting = Disabled.

System Installation on a Stress Cart

The steps below show how to place Stress system components on a Q-Stress cart. If you are not placing your system on a cart, you can use these steps for instructions on connecting the different components.

Figure 2: Example of a Q-Stress cart

Caution. Unstable workstation.

For best balance, place the system equipment on the cart as shown in Figure 2.

Adjustment of Top Surface Height Follow the instructions below to change the height of the top surface. Be aware that some of the screws are located in awkward positions. The pictures below show the top surface changed from the higher to the lower height. Step

1 Remove the monitor mount by pulling the mount straight up and then toward you (make sure you remove the lock bolt first.)

2 1. Remove the mounting hardware from the top surface:

2. Four screws from the monitor mount

3. Two or three screws (depending on position of risers) connecting the risers to the base (these must be removed from inside of the cart.

3 Remove the top surface from the cart

ADJUSTMENT OF TOP SURFACE HEIGHT

10

Step

4 Turn the top surface over and lay it on the cart (or a flat area). Remove the screws connecting each riser to the top surface

5 Rotate each riser 90 degrees and fasten back to the top surface.

6 Turn the top surface so the risers are on the bottom and lined up with the holes on top of the cart. Replace on cart. Reattach the four screws that hold the monitor to the cart.

7 Reattach the screws that hold the risers to the cart (you will need to work from under the cart).

8 Reattach the monitor holder and monitor to the cart.

Install the Writing Surface and Paper Tray Follow these instructions to install the optional writing surface and chart recorder paper tray on the Q-Stress cart. Step

1 Place the writing surface brackets into the slots on the right side of the cart.

2 Attach the chart recorder paper tray to the left side of the cart. Attach the paper tray flush with the cart for storing.

Component Placement Follow the instructions below for placement of system equipment. Note: The equipment for your system may be different from that show. Step

1 Place the strap (found in accessory box 1) through the holes in the bottom of the cart.

2 Place the computer tower through the strap and on to the cart. Secure the tower with the strap. If a mounting bracket is included with the PC / cart, secure the tower with the mounting bracket. Put the bracket on top of the PC and hook it onto the side of the shelf as shown.

3. For a laser printer: On the under side of the printer place the 4 rubber feet as shown.

COMPONENT PLACEMENT

14

4 Place the laser printer or chart recorder on top of the cart. Note: Follow printer manufacturer’s instructions to set up the printer.

5 Plug the four component AC power cables into the transformer. (See Figure 1 on page 4 for appropriate plug placement.)

6 While holding the four AC cables, place the transformer on the bottom of the cart.

7 Connect an AC cable to the transformer. Connect the third standard length AC cable to the computer tower. Connect the longest AC cable to the pre-amp. Route the two of the standard length AC cables to the top of the cart for the monitor and chart recorder. Note: Make sure the preamp is 3 feet or farther away from the isolation transformer. Electro- magnetic interference could cause noisy ECG signals.

8 Depending on the type of printer: • Connect the USB cable and the power cord to

the printer.

Or

• Connect the parallel cable to the chart recorder.

COMPONENT PLACEMENT

15

Step

9 Route and connect the printer cable to the upper left USB port on the computer. Also plug the video monitor into the video port. Route the mouse and keyboard cables through the hole on the top of the cart; through the hole in the shelf below and plug into the computer.

10 Place the monitor face down on a soft, clean, flat surface. Attach the universal bracket to the rear of the monitor. Tighten the screws securely. Caution! Be careful not to scratch or damage the LCD screen.

Attach bracket to back of monitor here

COMPONENT PLACEMENT

16

Step

11 Route the monitor video and power cables through the monitor post up through the cable hole.

12 Place the monitor arm on the cart and engage the hooks. Caution! A minimum of 6 arm hooks should be engaged.

COMPONENT PLACEMENT

17

Step

13 Secure the monitor mounting post by fastening the security bolt in the hole that lines up with the pen nut on the cart. Attach the power and monitor cables to the monitor.

14 Connect the preamp interface cable from the

preamp to the high speed serial port (COM4) on the computer. Note: Be sure to use the correct port. Install the preamp using the instructions provided with the preamp.

15 The hardware assembly and connection is now complete. See Connect the Exercise Device on page 18 for directions to attach a treadmill or ergometer.

18

Connect the Exercise Device Treadmill Connect the treadmill to the computer via the Serial cable provided (recommended) or USB cable. No further preparation is needed.

Ergometer Use the instructions that came with your exercise device to connect it to the Stress computer.
