What is 8 a Day?

8 a Day is sophisticated micronutritional productdesigned to enhance and optimize your overall biological function. This includes energy productionand maintenance of all four tissue types: connective, muscle, nervous, and epithelium. Maintenance isachieved by damage prevention and tissue repairwith emphasis on prevention. A stitch in time savesnine applies to micronutrition! 8 a Day uses potentantioxidant, natural anti-inflammatory and tissuerepair nutrients along with a global collection ofstandardized botanical extracts sourced from aroundthe world that promote healing and adaptation tostress. One-tablet-per-day products and virtually all multi-vitamin products are lacking several classesof nutrients so they fail to maintain—let alone amplify—overall function. Biological function is thefoundation of quality of life, which defines yourbionetworth. With 8 a Day you will be able to feel, experience, and measure the difference between a multi-vitamin product and a broad-spectrum biological performance amplifier. 8 a Day raises the bar on the meaning of “minimum.” Does “minimum” mean the minimum to not die—that is, to clinically take the minimum amount of “essential”nutrients to just prevent your death—or does itmean doing the minimum to feel vibrant and beready to perform at your genetic ceiling 24/7?

What can you expect from 8 a Day?

You can expect an improvement in overall well-being, energy level, and reduced fatigue in the firstmonth. Morning joint stiffness and recovery will benoticeably better in less than two weeks. After 6 to12 weeks you will one day notice that you are onanother level—able to tolerate what life throws yourway better, easier, perhaps even effortlessly. Theimprovements in physical abilities and capacitieswill be obvious, but you will probably also berewarded with enhancements in mental acuity andmental endurance. Less “brain fog” at the end of a stressful day. Being at this level will change yourlife’s horizon, your attitude toward life’s circum-stances in all dimensions: physically, mentally, andemotionally. You cannot quantify this but you canknow it through direct experience. If you must measure something, then do before and afterSpectra-Cell analysis of your white blood cells.

In essence, 8 a Day takes the obsolete “one-tablet-per-day” concept of all you need to miserably survive and elevate it to the “one-product-per-day”concept of all you need to perform at the next level.8 is the new 1, or, in the case of multi-vitamin pack-type products, the new 4 or 10 or whatever thepill count. It is not about the pill count; it is about the

constitution of nutrients in the daily dosage.

The dosage of 8 a Day defines the minimumcomposition to achieve the objective of enhancingand maintaining biological performance to a satisfactory benchmark. Stated differently, arun-of-the-mill multi-vitamin provides bare-bones life

insurance whereas 8 a Day provides quality-of-life

insurance. Big difference. A totally different cost-performance equation for a much more discriminating and sophisticated customer.

What prompted the development of 8 a Day?

Bionetworth, and before that, Elite Performance

Technologies and Equine Ergogenics, were companies with a singular mission: build the mostpowerful micronutritional products in the world for human and equine [horse] athletes. They were about winning and were held to the standard of performance enhancement, not about “supplements”or “vitamins.” The products were competitionproven in multiple athletic disciplines from the NFL,NBA, MLB, PGA golf, Hawaiian Ironman, Tour deFrance, ATP tennis, the hour record and 200 m timetrial in track cycling, high-altitude [8000 m] mountaineering, Olympic-level swimming, pro bullriding, IndyCar racing, Navy SEALs, supercross, motocross, thoroughbred, standardbred, and quarterhorse racing. They have gone through InternationalOlympic Committee drug testing protocols withoutfailure countless times. There are best-of-breed products for automobiles, watches, mountaineeringequipment, and musical instruments—have you evergiven any thought to what is the world’s premieremicronutritional product? Well, that is what I havebeen doing for the last 18 years.

After designing 17 products during the last 18 years,BIONX emerged as the best-of-breed product in themicronutritional space in 1995. BIONX is a uniqueproduct because of how it is conceived. It is notmodeled after any existing product type simplybecause there is nothing to compare it to. Instead, it is compared to an ideal model that is periodicallyupdated to reflect what is theoretically possiblegiven a cost-no-object approach. I call it Blue Sky

Platform, a highly sophisticated, proprietary technological platform designed to spin off micronutritional specifications. It is Bionetworth’score competency. It is refreshing because it is reallystate-of-the-art without the hype and vacuousclaims. This model embodies “The What If….?”metaphor every engineer dreams about. Isn’t thatwhat “state-of-the-art” meant in the first place beforeall the smoke and mirrors nonsense?

From this ultimate “blue sky” possibility, a formulais derived that represents what is the finest productthat is commercially viable at a given price point. The metric is performance per dollar. In other words,BIONX is the maximal performance deliverablegiven the economic constraint of $150-280 permonth—the ultimate Blue Sky Platform productwould be too costly! You can buy a Ferrari but notan IndyCar.

Q:

A :

Page 5: Q What is A · life’s horizon, your attitude toward life’s circum-stances in all dimensions: physically, mentally, and emotionally. You cannot quantify this but you can know it

The closest micronutritional product in history to the IndyCar level was Equine ErgogenicsREJUVENOL-2 back in the mid-90s. It cost $2000 per month for a race horse. It consistently deliveredaround a 2% performance benefit. What that meansis that in a 100 second event that is 2 seconds worthof performance: you bought 2 seconds. Just wrapyour mind around the idea of $1000 per second. It also delivered performance in the dimensions ofrecuperation and career longevity. Let’s do a trivialcost-benefit analysis. A Stakes-grade thoroughbredrace horse will compete once every 4 to 8 weeks fora winner’s purse of say $150,000 and one second issix lengths and in most races first and sixth placeswill be separated on an average of less than 12lengths. Do the math. Say a horse will recover 25%faster and be less prone to common equine, upper-respiratory tract infections. Do the math. Say a horsewill be able to race one more season without injuryor before performance degrades to uncompetitivelevels. Do the math.

An equivalent performance deliverable for humanswould cost you about $600 a month. BIONX does notcome close to that cost but is the best performancedeliverable for humans available today. 8 a Day isconceived by exactly the same process as BIONX andREJUVENOL-2 but is constrained by a $75-85 pricepoint. It is the best possible micronutritional product

for the money—it represents an astonishing bang for

the buck because of diminishing returns effects.Do the math. Make no mistake about it—8 a Day is a chip off the old block. It is a true game-changer because it is proprietary Blue Sky

Platform technology that for the first time will bewithin the grasp of practically everybody, no longerlimited to just wealthy professional athletes or corporate executives. You may have never heard of BIONX—and probably not REJUVENOL-2!— but you will hear about 8 a Day.

To copy 8 a Day you would need 5 to 10 separateproducts and even then you would have overlap ofnutrients and deficiency in the three dimensions ofquality: ingredients, quality control protocol andmanufacturing technology. The ingredients in 8 a Day are of the same quality as BIONX and the manufacturing standards of Douglas Laboratories, our manufacturer, are world class. The laboratory isroutinely inspected by the FDA and meets interna-tional testing standards by being ISO 9001 and ISO17025 certified. 8 a Day meets or exceeds the qualitystandards established by the U.S. Pharmacopoeia 31.For example, in the test for tablet disintegration, thestandard calls for complete disintegration in water in not more than 45 minutes at 37 degrees Celsius. 8 a Day disintegrates in less than 25 minutes. Thistest assures equivalent absorption performancebetween capsule and tablet delivery systems. An 8 a Day tablet will never enter the large

bowel like many other tablet products. With all thetablet products you have purchased in your life, how many actually were utilized by your body? How would you know to even ask the question?Didn’t you just assume they “worked?” Expensiveassumption.

Just these “overhead” quality costs without theingredient costs exceed the wholesale cost of manyfully-packaged products boasting grandiose claims. If you are buying a nutritional product that doesn’tmention these manufacturing quality standards in all likelihood there aren’t any. Why? Because they

are not legally mandated, they are voluntary. Whypay for something not required? We do because our elite clientele expects best-of-breed standards.Remember, it is about winning and our value proposition is predicated on results only. We represent that benchmark of quality—a true gold standard—even though it accounts for an appreciable cost to our business. I have a zero tolerance for mediocrity because best-of-breed reputation and mediocrity are mutually exclusive.

I call people that roll their own concoctions rocketscientists. Their witch’s brew consists of one productfrom this manufacturer and two from that one and afew more from that one over there. This thinking islike assuming “a car is a car.” A KIA has a steering

wheel and so does a Ferrari. Same for wheels, foureach. Are they the same? Vitamin C, 200 mg, check.CoQ10, 10 mg, check, so, therefore, “these productsare identical.” That is a very naïve and foolhardyway to compare micronutritional products and has been a convenient and unethical way for thisindustry to take advantage of the misinformed andpocket the difference for decades. By modeling metabolic networks you can see where the bottle-necks are and define what combination of nutrientsare required for a particular outcome downstream inthe network. Nonlinear synergies dominate cellularmetabolism, not linear, reductionist processes. For example, CoQ10 when combined with SabinsaBioperine enhances plasma concentration of CoQ10

by 30% and ascorbic acid [vitamin C] by 39%. Then,by relationships with other antioxidant nutrientssuch as ascorbic acid, tocopherols, superoxide dismutase and catalase enzymes, and a wide arrayof botanical antioxidants, the demand for CoQ10 inits role as an antioxidant is mitigated allowing it toperform the job you really want of CoQ10 which is its role as a coenzyme in the electron transport chainbecause that is where the vast majority of energy—ATP—is produced. Making a product that reallyincreases your “energy” ends up being a formulayou will not recognize: “what is that and why is

that and that even in there?” They are in there forgood reason.

Page 7: Q What is A · life’s horizon, your attitude toward life’s circum-stances in all dimensions: physically, mentally, and emotionally. You cannot quantify this but you can know it

So, saying one product has 30 mg and another has 10 mg of CoQ10 and concluding that more is automatically better is foolish. Better at what? Thereis a logarithmic, not a linear relationship betweenoral dosage and peak plasmalevel [concentration in the blood].What this means, for example, in the case of ascorbic acid, todouble the peak plasma level ofascorbic acid you need to increasethe dosage by a factor of 10, not2. If you have 200 mg of ascorbicacid and want to double the plasma level you need 2 grams[2000 mg], not 400 mg. But evenif you had 10 times the dose itstill may not accomplish whatyou want because of a rate limiting step problem, morecommonly known as “you areonly as strong as your weakestlink.” To affect a change at the cellular level or organism levelrequires multiple sequential steps and the rate limiting step may be the concentration of some tracemineral like vanadium or manganese in order toactivate some enzyme [a protein functioning as a catalyst to speed up a chemical reaction]. You mayhave overkill on all the nutrients in the pathway

except one but, unfortunately, you are stopped inyour tracks, hamstrung by something required inminiscule amounts. And even if you have it in yourproduct it may be present in a chemical form that is

poorly absorbed or has poorbioavailability or both. This

means that the product has a

poor quality nutrient source

limiting the value of the entire

product and ultimately limiting

your performance, which is why

you bought it in the first place. For example, if you are usinginorganic forms of minerals like calcium carbonate insteadof Albion Labs calciumChelazome, despite what thelabel indicates, say 1000 mg ofelemental calcium, you reallyare getting very little usable calcium. It would be better tohave 250 mg that is bioavailablethan practically nil from

calcium carbonate. Qualitative properties like thisdon’t show up on labels, only quantitative. Einsteinmust have been looking at a vitamin label when hesaid, "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts." Thedevil is in the details. Just one little mistake and it is

“8 a Day

product

for the money.”

Page 8: Q What is A · life’s horizon, your attitude toward life’s circum-stances in all dimensions: physically, mentally, and emotionally. You cannot quantify this but you can know it

game over and you will never know why. The label is important but really is only one piece of thepuzzle in the making of a world-class product.

So, getting back to Product A having three times as much CoQ10 as Product B. It might serve the function you want more efficaciously or it might not; it depends on what else is in there and howthose nutrients may interact with components inthe cell because the decision processes and, there-fore, the context within the cell changes on the fly. That is where Blue Sky Platform dominates. Rate limiting steps—bottlenecks—of the metabolome arethe key to biological performance. It is impossible to look at two products’ labels and conclude withcertainty which performs better without knowingthe principles of bioinformatics and metabolomics, which are new disciplines that model the inventoriesof small molecules in the cell. These fields are still intheir infancy but they are the best tools to model the dynamics of living systems. Reality needs to

be considered. Without these tools, it isn’t. Static paradigms, like nutritional theory, are based on ideas conceived from around 1850 to the early twentieth century.

Well, that’s the story on quality of design but thereare other dimensions of quality you need to beaware of. When I worked at Lockheed Missiles

& Space Company in the 1980s I was responsiblefor testing integrated circuits for the Trident submarine-launched, nuclear ballistic missile and for testing electrical components for satellites. Sayyou have 1000 dependent events that must happenone right after the other without a single failure inorder for the missile to go from the Arabian Sea toMoscow. If even one component fails, the missiledoes not reach its target. 99.9% reliability for any single component is terrible; it must be much betterthan that. When the Navy is buying Trident missilesit isn’t really buying nuclear missiles, it is buying thecapacity to vaporize a city on demand with a veryhigh degree of confidence. Without ungodly thinking going into quality control and design, thatcapacity and confidence will be jeopardized due tounreliability: “hey, what if my missile doesn’t work.”Now, the human body is far more complex than anymissile. To expect a complex nutritional supplement

to achieve its mission of enhancing biological

performance without extensive quality control and

rigorous design prowess is wishful thinking. But in anunregulated industry, when the cat’s away the micewill play. So here is a partial list of what you mustdo to hit the target with confidence.

Page 9: Q What is A · life’s horizon, your attitude toward life’s circum-stances in all dimensions: physically, mentally, and emotionally. You cannot quantify this but you can know it

Manufacture a product to:

internationally-certified and recognized quality standards;

use the best possible ingredient sources for absorption and bioavailability that are then independently tested by the in-bound quality assurance personnel for impurities like toxic heavymetals [mercury, lead, cadmium, etc.] and virulentbacteria and viruses by professionals in the requisitespecialized disciplines of microbiology, spectroscopyand analytical chemistry;

use blenders capable of homogenously blendingmicrogram concentrations of trace elements such as iodine or molybdenum with near gram concentrations of SOD/CAT wheat sprouts or connective tissue substrates [concentration ratio of 12,000:1] so the finished product assays withinacceptable tolerances of the label’s specifications;

use state-of-the-art low temperature tableting equipment to improve disintegration performance to assure maximal absorption potential and to notdenature the chemical structures of thermally-fragilebotanical and connective tissue components;

and

use state-of-the-art design tools like Blue Sky

Platform based on the latest theories of bio-informatics, bioenergetics, metabolic networks anddynamic models of the metabolome [modeling ofconcentrations of all critical small molecules withinthe cell as they are impacted by gene expression and metabolic activity including flux of dietary components].

By the way, none of the above is required ofmicronutritional products to be manufactured, distributed, and sold in the United States. It is legalto skip all of it. These five attributes are not listed

on anybody’s bottle, they are phantoms. Because thepublic is largely ignorant of all five above they arecosts that other manufacturers conveniently sidestepbut I don’t because there are a small number of people knowledgeable enough to know the difference. More importantly, I know the difference.Back to the car analogy: the invisible five qualitiesabove are analogous to the difference between twocars each having steering wheels, brakes, and anengine such as a KIA and a Ferrari. The gross, superficial quantities are identical but the qualitativedifferences are immense when you take each in turnfor a spin! In reality, there are two check lists: thefirst check list is the label that everyone scrutinizesand is quantitative in nature. 300 mg of this and 10 micrograms of that. I already addressed why that is hopelessly sophomoric.

Page 10: Q What is A · life’s horizon, your attitude toward life’s circum-stances in all dimensions: physically, mentally, and emotionally. You cannot quantify this but you can know it

The second list is nowhere to be seen on the label but is listed above and is qualitative in nature. Since it is mostly immeasurable or difficult to measure, expensive and not legally required, it is completelyignored. I pay those “unnecessary” costs because thatis what Bionetworth and I stand for. Bionetworth

makes Ferraris, one with a V-12 and the other with aV-8. We don’t make a 4 cylinder Ferrari because itwould cheapen the Bionetworth brand to the level of our competition. The strength of a brand is commensurate with its depth of distinction. We are a nonpareil brand, an icon for “performance ondemand.” It is impossible to cheat, to cut corners, and develop a reputation synonymous with proven, consistent, performance enhancement. Nobody comesto us to buy “vitamins.” That would be death to usbecause that would mean we would have competi-tors. What I am saying is that we leapfrogged the

business category of vitamin supplement-as-product

to performance enhancement-as-service. Many dotsinvisible to the customer’s awareness must be elegantly connected for that to happen. It seems likemagic, but it isn’t. It is kind of like saying Pixarmakes films, a product...no they don’t! They delivermagical entertainment—a service—and a servicewithout any viable competitors. There just happens tobe a film in the can but that isn’t what comes to theircustomers’ minds when they hear ‘Pixar.’ Eyes don’t

light up over a film in a can or pills in a bottle. Thoseare commodities.

So, in conclusion, yes, you can be a seat-of-the-pantsrocket scientist. But maintaining the logistics of such a tragically-failed design from the get-go gets tiresome quickly and easily costs twice as much withall that wasteful packaging, ingredient duplication, and shipping costs… and totally lacks all the qualityand design benchmarks I presented. 8 a Day elegantlyretires the amateur rocket science and time wastingwith one order placed on the web.

What is the picture on the bottle?

That is a painting of Sir Isaac Newton by the greatgenius William Blake done in 1795. Newton is wellknown for his work in physics and as co-inventor of calculus but what is not commonly known abouthim was his firm belief in the gold standard formonetary exchange. In the late 1600’s he held thepost of Warden of the Mint in England. He wasregarded as one of the most imaginative minds of all time and was a true “blue sky” visionary. Forthose reasons, I see Blue Sky Platform inspired bythis image of Newton in-action blue skying one ofhis creations for the ages and also as Blue Sky

Platform being the gold standard, the best-of-breeddesign platform in the micronutritional space. It ismany years ahead of its time.

How does 8 a Day relate to diet?

Trying to consistently consume a quality diet hasbecome an impossible task for most people. I havewritten two books on the subject of fitness, nutritionand stress management; one of the books is aninsanely technical and theoretical tome based onover 1000 peer-reviewed references which presentsAn Operating System for the Human Organism andthe other book is more conceptual and philosophical. The feedback I have gotten from customers andreaders on diet compliance is pretty uniform—people are confused by all the contradictory dietadvice from the plethora of “experts” and are tootime-constrained to consistently execute a sounddietary regimen even if they knew enough to separate the wheat from the chaff. Mark Twainnailed the vacuous character of the most populardiets: “It ain't what you don't know that gets youinto trouble. It's what you know for sure that justain't so.”

This combination of being on the go coupled with the deteriorating nutritional content of com-mercially-grown fruit and vegetables means that noone really knows for sure if they are getting the basicnutrients to just avoid getting ill or “burnout”exhausted, let alone being in optimal, vibrant health. And many Americans don’t consume any fruit and

vegetables at all! 8 a Day, in its role as a broad-

spectrum biological performance amplifier, directly

impacts quality of life by filling in the holes created

by these two great lacks: lack of knowledge and lack

of execution. The best thing to save for old age is

yourself. 8 a Day is a highly leveraged investment in your bionetworth. What is a better investmentthan that?

Can you benefit from taking more thaneight tablets per day?

Yes, you can. If you are over 180 pounds and areactive and under a lot of stress, you could easily goto eight tablets twice daily for a daily maintenanceprogram instead of just eight total. Also, if youdesire superior performance for managing morningstiffness, increase the dosage to 6 to 8 tablets twice daily.

Is 8 a Day approved by the FDA?

No, it isn’t. In fact, no nutritional supplement isapproved by the FDA; only pharmaceuticals thathave gone through clinical trials are “approved.”Such approval does not exist for specific nutritionalsupplement products but some manufacturing facilities are inspected by the FDA. Our manufacturer, Douglas Laboratories, is routinelyinspected by the FDA.

Is 8 a Day intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease?

Not at all. No product can deliver on that. Sorry. If anyone says it does they are wrong.
