    Your essay should have the following elements.

    Title The Changes in the Mode of Transport

    Introduction/Overview 1. The graph shows the changes in the mode of transport to and fromwork in a city in 1950, 1975 and 2000.

    2. A newspaper article from the Malaysian Times providing an extractfrom a speech made by the Minister of Environment

    Overall Trend The trend shows the increased dependency on cars as mode of transport to

    travel to work in more recent years and a corresponding decline of walking

    or cycling as the preferred mode of transport which may affect the

    environment.

    ANALYSIS of Data:

    Numbers

    1. The number of those driving to work rose from 5% in 1950 to 25% in1975 and reached 42% in 2000.

    2. In 1950, the number of bus commuters was 25%, increased by 10%in 1975 then dropped to 25% in 2000.

    3. The percentage of cyclist declined from 40% in 1950 to 10% in 1975.In 2000, this dropped further to 4%.

    4. Only 2% walked to work in 2000, dropping from 30% in 1950 and 6%in 1975.

    5. No one used motorbikes or trains in 1950. However, in 1975, 22%used motorbikes but this dropped to 19% in 2000. Only 2% used the

    train in 1975 but this increased to 12% in 2000.

    6. The Malaysian Times reported in 2000 that the Minister ofEnvironment urged commuters to help save the environment and

    lead a healthier lifestyle by taking the train, car-pool, cycle or walk.

    Trends/Changes

    1. The cars popularity rose dramatically from 1950 to 2000. Whilecommuters were urged to save the environment, personal

    convenience seems to influence the choice of transportation the

    most. Thus cycling or walking popularity as the mode of transport

    continued to decline.

    2. With the increase in the use of cars, motorbikes and trains as theselected mode of transport for those commuting to work, this may

    affect the environment with the increase emission of smoke and

    carbon dioxide as well as affect overall health with the lack of

    physical movement.

    Conclusion: In conclusion, commuters in recent years prefer to drive, take the train or

    ride the motorbike to and from work.

    Or

    While commuters were urged to save the environment and lead a healthylifestyle, personal convenience seems to influence the choice of

    transportation the most.

    Prediction: If this trend continues, the environment as well as our overall health could

    be affected.

    Proposal: The government should organize awareness campaigns on the importance

    of protecting the environment and leading a healthier lifestyle.
