of the HBA. Insert ing a 3.3v HBA into a 5v slot would cau se severe

dam age to both the HBA and the server. Therefore, the slot keys

denote the typ e of voltage provided by the slot and effectivelyprevent a voltage incomp atible HBA from being inserted.

QLogic offers HBAs for each bus/ slot type ava ilable. Table 1 shows

each of the EMC-sup ported QLogic HBAs, and their respective slot

requirements. Be sure to consult both your server user guide andQLogic to insure that th e HBA you want to u se is compat ible with

    your server s bus.

Remember that som e of the older H BAs are tall (also referred to as

full-height) and may not fit into a server w ith a low -profile chassis.

These factors must be considered before imp lementing you r

configuration to avoid unnecessary delays and possible equipm entswaps or returns.

    Installation and Configuration

Note: NVRAM is short for N on-volatile RAM. This is a special portion of

mem ory on the HBA wh ere HBA settings are stored.

Note: Driver and BIOS files may not fit on the same flopp y. If you run out of

disk space, use a single flopp y d isk for the d river files, and another d isk for

    the BIOS files.

Install/ upgrade firmwa re and boot BIOS from DOSTo u pd ate using a DOS boot d iskette, follow these steps:

    1. Format a 3.5-inch d iskette and extract the BIOS and NVRAM files

from the archive file (.zip or self-extracting .exe) onto the

diskette. Make sure flasutil.exe and the sou rce files

    ql23rom.bin/ql2322rm.bib/2322ipx.bin are in the same

directory. EMC-specific settings are contain ed in files nam ed

emcXXXX.def an d emcXXXX.dat where XXXX is the model num berof the HBA. These settings files (also referred to as NVRAM

setting files) shou ld also be in th e same directory with the flash

utility and source files. Note that som e versions of BIOS may use

different filenam es for dep end ing on the version and H BA mod el.

Be sure to check the readme includ ed with the BIOS files to make

sure you have all of the app ropriate files before proceeding to

    step 2.

    2. Reboot your Windows host system u sing a DOS diskette.

    3. At theA:\> prom pt, insert the diskette that contains the QLogic

BIOS files (created in step 1).

    4. Run FlasUtil program by typing flasutil at the comm and

    prompt.

    5. If the QLX23XX controller is detected, the following is displayed :

QL23XX Adapter found at I/O address: xxxx

Note: If the QL23XX controller is not detected , run flasutil again withthe /I (Ignore Subsystem ID) option.

    6. Select F to w rite Flash. FlasUtil wr ites Flash to ad apter using

Microsoft Initiator Service can also be done on a Symmetrix storage

array. For m ore information, refer to Symm etrix LUN Masking

    documentation.

The importan t concept is understan ding the HBAs iqn name, its

relationship to persistant binding in a SAN env ironmen t, and how

the Microsoft Initiator Service chan ges the iqn n ame.

IMPORTANT!Failing to change the iqn name before installing the Windows

operating system w ill cause the hos t to blue screen for an

inaccessible boot device when the Microsof t Initiator Service

changes the iqn name after being installed.

Note: Booting from SAN w ith QLA40xx and Microsoft Initiator follows the

same setu p configur ation as boot from SAN with the QLogic QLA40xx iSCSI

    HBA.

IMPORTANT!At this point, only connect the HBA that will be used to boot.

Remaining HBA(s) can be connected after the Window s operating

system is installed. Failing to do so could result in a blue screen

during the installation process. Best practice recommends having

only the LUN you will be booting from presented to the host. This

will ease the process of se lecting the correct boot LUN during the

HBA configuration and during the O/S installation. Remaining

LUN S can be added after the ins tallation.

    1. The first step is to know what you are going to name your server

and how that tran slates into an iqn nam e. Microsoft Initiator uses

the followin g naming conven tion: iqn.1991-05.com.microsoft

:servername.domainn ame. Therefore, if the server nam e is to be

test, and the domain nam e is workgroup, then the name the

Initiator w ill use to renam e the H BA w ill be

    iqn.1991-05.com.microsoft:test.workgroup.

    Where to find the driver

You can find the Fibre Chann el HBA driver:

On th e QLogic CD-ROM that accomp anied th e HBA. Copy th e

dr iver from the OS-specific directory: \ Wind ows2000 or

    \ Wind ows2003

On the QLogic website. Refer to Download ing latest QLogic

drivers/ firmw are/ BIOS files on page 16

To ease installation of the d river, unzip the d river file onto a blank

    diskette.

    Windows 2003 STORPort upda tes

Currently th e shipp ing version of Window s 2003 requires post-RTM

hot fixes to resolve some known issues. For all Wind ows 2003STORPort installations, you should obtain the current Microsoft QFE

hotfix listed in theEMC Support M atrix with the H BA driver

    revisions.

Install this patch before installing the HBA driver. Window s 2003

    Service Pack 1 (x86 and IA64) and Window s 2003 x64 contain the

latest STORPort hot fix and does not require a p ost-RTM QFE.

Misce llaneous Planning a nd Procedures

IMPORTANT!EMC recommends that users planning to upgrade to Service Pack 1

for Windows 2003 should upgrade the ir HBA drivers to the latestsupported version prior to installing the service pack.

Migrating Windows 2003 drivers from SCSI to STOR

As of April 2006, STORPort has been fully ad opted by th ird-party

software and tap e vendor s and EMC is proceeding towards sole

STORPort sup port u nd er Wind ows 2003. Add ing to the technicalbenefits of STORPort, phasing-out SCSI miniport on Wind ow s 2003

will provid e better coordination of driver version support from

OEMs. STORPort will be the comm on d river platform for all server

and storage vendors to p rovide the customer w ith compatible

    solutions.

In the April 2006EMC Support M atrix (ESM), EMC will make SCSI

driver releases for Windows 2003 x86 from QLogic frozen as the last

sup ported Window s 2003 SCSI versions. Once this end -of-life (EOL)

is in effect, new installs will still be permitted with the SCSI drivers

for three mon ths, but EMC encourages customers to u se STORPort

instead. Three months after the EOSL (after th e Jun eESM) EMC will

make th ese Window s 2003 SCSI versions EOL. Upon EOSL, start ing

with the JulyESM, the Windows 2003 SCSI versions w ill no longer be

listed and w ill not be sup ported for new installations. Existing

customers w ho h ave Window s 2003 SCSI already installed w ill besup ported , and any fix or MS HCL sup port w ill likely require an

up grad e to STORPort. Windows 2000 will continu e to use SCSI

    drivers as the only option.

What to expect when moving from SCSI miniport/ Full Port drivers to

    STORPort drivers

In STORPort drivers, functions or settings that u sers may have set

may no longer be available or may be accessed differently than in the

past. These are now controlled by the OS. EMC has always p rovided

stand ard settings wh ich w ere accessible via dr iver configuration

utilities. For STORPort drivers, EMC will require that the default

settings for STORPort drivers be used u nless otherwise instructed.

Configuration utilities for STORPort that ru n u nd er Wind ows

(SAN Sur fer as well as the Qlogic Ease of Use installation k it), will

allow access to settings for the driver that m ay be changed via the

    ut ility if necessary.
