Quality Management in Projects
Added Value of QM•
Positioning of QM within project framework•
QM and the Project Life Cycle•
Processes for initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing QM
•
Module 2: Quality Standards, Tools and Templates
Quality standards identify what will be done from
the beginning to the end of the project to ensure
that all of the original deliverables are produced, the
stakeholder requirements are met, and the project
resources are well-managed. As a consequence, the
end result of the project meets all expectations. ISO
10006:2003 gives guidance on the application of
quality management in projects. It is applicable to
projects of varying complexity, small or large, of
short or long duration, in different environments,
and irrespective of the kind of product or process
involved. Projects that follow this guideline have a
higher likelihood of success because they will have
quality standards established and followed.

Quality Procedures•
Quality Policies•
Quality Metrics•
Quality Management: Tools and Templates•
Module 3: Deliverable Quality Control ReviewProcess
The purpose of the quality management review
process is to ensure that project standards which
have been agreed to at the onset of the project are
adhered to. A review should be conducted after each
phase to verify that major milestones have been
completed. The deliverable quality control review
will not only evaluate the quality of the deliverable
content but also conduct a "compliance" audit.
Compliance is measured by adherence to thestandards documented in the Quality Management
Plan.

Process mapping•
QC Review Report•
Quality Assurance•
Deliverable Review and Acceptance Process•
Module 4: Planning QM Activities
The Project Manager is responsible for scheduling
all Quality Management Reviews. The schedule
should be maintained in the Quality Management
Plan and updated accordingly. The Quality
Management Team’s primary role is to provide an
impartial review of the project, determine the
extent of progress, measure the adherence to
procedures, and verify that the obtained results
have been conform to defined acceptance criteria
and quality standards stated in the Quality
Management Plan.

Project preparation QM activities•
Quality Management Roles and Responsibilities•
Project Sponsor•
Business Owner•
Project Team Leads and Team Members•
Quality Advisor•
Quality Reviewer•
Module 5: Project Documentation Management
Projects generate masses of documentation. Worse
still, each project usually makes up its own directory
structure to store project documents as it goes
along. There is no consistent layout for directories
and subdirectories. Time spent tracking down
project documents can be significant and it gets
even worse when the documentation turns out to
be an early version. You need a documentmanagement system.

Module 6: The Quality Management Plan
A Quality Management Plan specifies standards and
procedures that govern each phase of a particular
project, when they will be used, the means to verify
correct use, and the people responsible for using and
monitoring them. The Quality Management Plan
provides guidelines and procedures to ensure the
project meets user requirements while conforming
to organization standards. It outlines the quality
assurance review function and criteria for
conformance.
Workshop areas:
Quality Management Plan template•
Quality Management Plan development process•
Quality Management Plan implementation•
Module 7: Dealing with Quality Issues
The quality issue management process is intended
to facilitate the resolution and communication of
quality issues to all appropriate parties. It ensures
that all quality issues are quickly raised and
addressed in order to minimize the impact to the
project. Any problem that impedes the progressand/or quality of the project should be regarded as
an issue and must be processed by the issue
management procedure. Options for resolution
must always be considered and documented before
escalation.
