Bedrock Geology of the Grollier Lake Area, Southeastern Dodge Domain, Snowbird Project (Parts of NTS 74P11, 12, 13 and 14) South Sheet at 1:20 000 scale Preliminary Geological Map (2011) by B. Knox, C.D. Card, and K.E. Ashton
The area was mapped by Bernadette Knox (project leader) and Colin Card (project geologist) and Ken Ashton (project geologist) with the assistance of Evan Wyshynski, Ashlee Latimer, and Andrew May during the summer of 2011. This map was printed from the geologist’s digital file. Geological data were processed using Microsoft Access, and ESRI ArcMap 10 software. Base maps were compiled from CanVec 1:50 000 scale digital cartographic maps produced by Natural Resources Canada. Grid Coordinates are NAD83 CSRS98 UTM zone 13. The map was processed overall using ESRI ArcMap 10 software. The map is issued in a package with the Summary of Investigations 2011 Volume 2, Saskatchewan Geological Survey, and is available separately from http://www.er.gov.sk.ca/soi. This map accompanies the following publication: Knox. B., Card, C. D., and Ashton, K. E. (2011): Bedrock geology of the Grollier Lake area, southeastern Dodge Domain (parts of NTS 74P11, 12, 13, and 14); in Summary of Investigations 2011, Volume 2, Saskatchewan Geological Survey, Sask. Ministry of Energy and Resources, Misc. Rep. 2011-4.2. This map may be referenced as: Knox, B., Card, C.D., and Ashton, K.E. (2011): Bedrock geology of the Grollier Lake area, southeastern Dodge Domain, Snowbird Project (parts of NTS 74P11, 12, 13, and 14) South Sheet; 1:20 000 prelim. map with Summary of Investigations 2011, Volume 2, Saskatchewan Geological Survey, Sask. Ministry of Energy and Resources, Misc. Rep. 2011-4.2.
LEGEND Granitoid dyke: pink to grey; fine to coarse grained, locally pegmatitic; homogeneous, massive; 0-20% muscovite, 0-3% biotite, 0-3% tourmaline, 0-2% garnet; straight sided, 0.5 cm to 3 m in width; non magnetic. Felsite dyke: light grey to pale pink; fine to medium grained; homogeneous, massive; 0-2% biotite; straight sided, 10-50 cm in width; non magnetic.
Gabbro: dark green to black; fine to medium grained; foliated to massive; clinopyroxene-hornblende-biotite-plagioclase-magnetite-garnet; CI=501; variably magnetic. Gabbro dyke: Same as unit G with width < 2 m. Norite: light brown, locally dark green; fine to medium grained; foliated to massive; (orthopyroxene-clinopyroxene- hornblende-biotite-plagioclase-magnetite); CI=35-50; variably magnetic. Norite dyke: Same as unit N with width < 2 m. Pyroxenite: dark green to black; fine to coarse grained; poorly foliated to massive; clinopyroxene-garnet-hornblende-biotite-magnetite; variably magnetic, locally very high. Pyroxenite dyke: Same as unit P with width < 2 m. Tonalite: white to pale pink; medium to coarse grained; homogeneous, moderately foliated; garnet, biotite, illmenite; CI=8-15; non magnetic. Garnet-bearing anatectic granite: white to pale pink; medium to coarse grained, locally fine grained; foliated and layered particularly where remnants of unit Psg remain (mainly as restite comprising variably retrogressed altered garnet, biotite ± sillimanite); CI 5-15 (predominately garnet with minor biotite); garnet retrogressed to biotite. Psammopelitic gneiss: white to light grey or pale pink and grey-brown to rusty; fine to coarse grained; well layered to gneissic and rarely migmatitic due to presence of melt ± injected leucosome; garnet-biotite-quartz-K-feldspar ± sillimanite ± plagioclase, graphite; grades into unit GAn; contains psammite layers up to 30 cm wide (CI=5-10; garnet and biotite); CI=10-30; locally weakly magnetic. Quartzite: white to pale blue; fine to medium grained; poorly foliated; garnet ± diopside ± feldspar; interlayered with unit Psg; CI=2-5. Granite: black to grey and white to light pink; medium to coarse grained; well foliated, weakly lineated; pyroxene, biotite, hornblende; CI=10-20; non magnetic. Quartz diorite to monzodiorite: white to dark grey and dark green to black; medium to coarse grained, locally very coarse grained; moderately to strongly foliated/lineated; clinopyroxene, hornblende, biotite, magnetite; CI=10-35; generally highly magnetic. Mixed tonalite to gabbro: dark green to black and white to grey; fine to coarse grained; well foliated to strongly lineated; gradational compositional variations between end members; clinopyroxene-hornblende-biotite ± clinopyroxene; CI=15-55; variably magnetic. Monzogranodiorite to quartz monzonite: black to dark green and white to light pink; medium to coarse grained; moderately to strongly foliated/lineated; gradational compositional variations between end members; clinopyroxene, hornblende, biotite, ± magnetite ± garnet; 0-5% gabbroic xenoliths and mafic to ultramafic dyke components; CI=15-30. 1Colour Index
