    Dear QMTC Members,

    Greetings to you!

When great minds meet, Greater things can be achieved. SPANDANAM has been a success till now, only because Great minds of QMTCs came together and delivered!

The enthusiasm of members, the constant nudge and support from QMTCs leaders, have clearly seeped into this newsletter. In my role as VP-PR and Editor of SPANDANAM, I am indeed proud to have had this privilege. However in all modesty I have also to inform you that, apart from the skeleton of this newsletter which I have given form to, the tasty fillers and ingredients have been packaged and presented by the talented members of this esteemed club , to whom I extend my gratitude.

I would also like to acknowledge the timely tips and suggestions offered by our active Toastmaster Yousaf Vannarath, Area 53 Director in taking the fine aspects of the news letter. I am sure that all of you will welcome this newsletter with open mind and all its contents to your sheer reading pleasure. Let us also continue our efforts to consistently enhance the quality of our future publications.

My sincere thanks to all the con-tributors and members of QMTC.

    Happy reading!!!

    Presidents Message

It is my pleasure and a privilege to be the President of this prestigious Qatar Malayalam Toastmasters Club

for the 20152016 term. We think of ourselves too frequently as just indi-viduals, separated from one another, whereas in reality we all are connected and what we do affects others. When you do well, it spreads out to all the members.

There is a small story about team work. An anthropologist studying the habits and customs of an African tribe found himself surrounded by children most days. He decided to play a little game with them. He managed to get candy from the nearest town and put it all in a decorated basket at the foot of a tree. Then he called the children and suggested they play the game. When the anthropologist said now, the children had to run to the tree and the first one to get there could have all the candy to him/herself. The chil-dren all lined up waiting for the signal. When the anthropologist said now, all of the children took each other by

the hand ran together towards the tree. They all arrived at the same time, di-vided up the candy, and began to hap-pily munch away. The anthropologist went over to them and asked why they had all run together when any one of them could have had the candy all to themselves. The children responded: Ubuntu. Ubuntu is a philosophy of African tribes that can be summed up as I am what I am because of who we all are.

This is the philosophy I chose as the theme of this year -Together we can. At toastmasters meetings we come together to not only become strong public speakers and leaders but also to help others to become one. For most of us this journey starts at an in-dividual level with soul searching, the urge to get better. During meetings we take turns at different roles, learn a lot from each other, learn from our mis-takes and those made by others. We help each other with feedback and en-couragement. This creates a very sup-portive environment for everybody to learn and grow.Having a successful, fun filled meeting is not just the responsibility of the

toastmaster and the general evaluator but of all the members as well. That includes making sure when one signs up for roles, respond in a timely man-ner to the emails that are sent out. If you dont hear from the TM or GE, contact them. Keep in mind it is the commitment you are making, and if for some reason you cannot fulfill that commitment, please find the replace-ment. It is important to actively par-ticipate in the meetings. I encourage everybody to set at least one toastmas-ter goal for this year. Im setting my goal as achieving Advanced Leader-ship Bronze by June 2016. By working together, we will achieve Presidents Distinguished Club status this year. The American industrialist, and the founder of the Ford Motor Company Henry Ford said, Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is prog-ress; working together is success. We have a great year coming up full of surprises, fun and learning. Whether youre on the path to your first award or heading towards more in tricate, meteoric things, theres always some-thing for everyone.

You are every little piece of this won-derful club. This is a little message from me to you; as this club would not function without your effort, hu-mour and enthusiasm.

If everyone is moving forward togeth-er, then success takes care of itself. Together we will continue on our path of success. Together, we can!

It gives me im-mense pleasure to note that Qatar Malay-alam Toast-masters Club is bringing out its

maiden issue of its newsletter: Span-danam which means the the heart beat. Im sure that this newsletter is the true heartbeat of its members. Toastmasters Club is a place where we get many opportunities to learn many new things that will make you happy & contented. Creating a newsletter & a website are two new skills I learnt during my Toastmasters journey. I learnt to create a newsletter when I took up the responsibility of the Editor of Toasted Tidings, the newsletter of Qatar Toastmasters. Later I was the Editor of ENGINEER, the news-letter of KEF Toastmasters. It will be impossible for me to express the satis-faction & happiness I got while bring-ing out many issues of these newslet-ters which were very successful in the Division as well as in the District. Im sure Spandanam also will become a winner newsletter, soon.

I have always enjoyed visiting Qatar Malayalam Toastmasters Club. Lead-ers of this Club has taken the club to a very high level creating friendship among members like the members of an extended family. Club meeting in the boat in the backwaters of Kerala and many family get togethers you have held are some of the innovative thoughts of its leaders in team build-ing. I believe in the magic mantra: Dream itBelieve itDo it. Always dream bigbelieve in your dream & just do it. There is no doubt that the success will be yours. Wishing the Editor cum Vice President Public Relations TM Sajna Mnshoor, her editorial team, Club Excom & all the members of Qatar Malayalam Toastmasters Club, all the very best. God bless & make all your dreams come true.

Discover Your Hidden PotentialThe second key is association with the right people to bring out the best out of us. Wisdom teaches that if we remove bad people from our lives then bad things will stop happening. In a lot of cases wrong people are occupying time and space that the right people need to occupy in our lives. In other words, many of us are so caught up and occupied with the wrong people doing useless things that we do not have time to even meet the right people. Where do we find the right people? Thats where the toastmasters educational program fills the gap. It gives us a platform for elegant socialization with the think alike people for mutual development. There are specific people that we meet in our lives who becomes instrumental in helping us to discover our hidden potential. These people will have the ability to identity our capabilities which we failed to see in the past. They will push us and encourage us to pursue greatness in life. In toastmasters fraternity we will find many helping hands to encourage us and support us if we are really interested. In my tenure with toastmasters fraternity I have got many helping hands to bring me up to reach where I am today. And I am always thankful to all my fellow toastmasters who stood with me and

supported me for my development. In other words there are many members helped me to find my inborn talents and supported me to bring those out. Every one of us has a hidden treasure. Some of us will discover that treasure and go on to live successful lives. Others will never discover their treasure and therefore never accomplish the great things they have the potential to accomplish in life. But Toastmasters fraternity will support you to find your hidden potentials. So dear fellow toastmasters, you are part of a great university called Toastmasters fraternity and you have the right environment and right supporting hands to develop your hidden potentials.Hence I request to join with this great fraternity and grab the maximum advantage and discover your hidden potential and explore yourself.

    Subair Pandavath

Past Area 53 Governor, Division Q, District 20

Imm. past President Qatar Malayalam Toastmasters Club

    Past President Doha Toastmasters Club.

    P o t e n t i a l is defined as the inherent ability or capacity for d e v e l o p m e n t , growth or coming into being. Each of us has the capacity to become

someone great which will enable us to do great things in life. Unfortunately, a lot of people never discover the potential they have within themselves. Some of the greatest athletes never play a game and some of the greatest actors never act a part on a major stage simply because they never realize their true potential.A normal person uses only less than 10% of his brain. There are tremendous opportunities for exploring it for better performance. How many of you believe that toastmasters club makes you a better communicator or a public speaker? If your answer is Yes, then you are mistaken!! Toastmasters club does not make you a better communicator or a public speaker. What makes you better is your own hard work. Toastmasters club is only a platform that helps you to become a better communicator or a public speaker. You have to put yourself into course of action. You have to discover

your hidden potentials and your fellow toastmasters will support you. To become a successful speaker in a toastmasters club, you need to attend the club meetings regularly; you have to involve in the proceedings and put yourselves into action. If you do that, you dont have to run behind success, success will run behind you in all your steps. Toastmasters club helps members to develop their inherent skills through educational programs. It helps to remove barriers or obstruction that stand in the way of expression of individual personality through a process of training. Thus it empowers members to become better communicators and effective leaders. The first Key to success is the environment we are dealing with. Even if we have the greatest of talents within us, we will still struggle to prosper if we are not in the right environment. If we are in the right environment we will be in great demand and it will tap the best out of us for our personal development and for the betterment of the environment we work for.Toastmasters fraternity is the right place to discover our hidden potential. It will also help us to improve our existing capabilities and become a master in our profession

Though thirst to be a mother, Fate was against my desire.Nobody knows my times of yore,It was really a time of Sore.Kinfolk were much worried,Where my worries buriedBeseech to my lord,Plead with broken heart word.Three of my little hopes,Were shattered in monthsDays of sob ,Pillows where dampAt last God blessed

    MY SONWOMeN

Let me have a compensating line, for the one who kept his eyes opened, for the one who kept his smiles, sorry! for not understanding.

He kept smiling from heart He kept inviting from heart But I couldnt realize him,

So I feel that I did hurt him,

Its my fault around him,No, its not my faultAlso not his faultBut a game of the creator,

even then my heart didnt blame him coz he did indicate Something to me always But I was something else..

SORRY FOR eVeRYTHINGNot my fault . Not your fault . But

    Our First House Boat trip

One of the most memorable moments during our summer holidays this year was a pleasure trip to Punnamada in Alappuzha wherein we enjoyed a house boat stay. From Calicut we boarded a train to Thuravur. We reached Thuravur station at early morning 3:00 am, from where we were picked by my Dads cousin Pradeep uncle. We slept for couple of hours at their home after which we did our morning chores. We were served with steaming idlis and appam by Sheera aunty, Pradeep uncles wife. After Breakfast in Pradeep uncles car we went to Alappuzha Boat jetty. We waited for our toast masters team to arrive, Subair uncle President of Qatar Malayalam Toast Masters Club came in first with his family followed by other Toast Master uncles. Some of them were driving fast and were stopped by Kerala Police. The House boat which we hired was a beautiful one; we opted for a room in upper deck. There was a big dining hall in the boat wherein many games were conducted. It was real fun. A delicious lunch was served with many curries and fresh fried fish. As usual I wasnt much into the food stuff to maintain my 19kg weight for last 4 years. Later we had tender coconuts and Hamza uncle purchased big shrimps for dinner. The Boat was parked there, the natural scenery outside was very pretty. Everyone was busy capturing the natural scenery in their own mobiles and camera. We got tired of posing for pictures. In the evening the toast masters meeting took place and all the kids were asked to sit quietly in our room. We were playing inside and suddenly my brother Abhinav knocked the door and when I opened he screamed to scare me. My mom mistook as Abhinav fell into the river hearing the scream and came running towards our room .Everyone was annoyed at Abhinavs act. We had various game sessions like housie, made for each other, anthakshari after dinner. Later we slept in our room. In the morning by the time we completed our daily routines the boat has reached back the jetty from where we had boarded. The trip ended. I felt a little sad and then we went back to Alappuzha station to catch our train back to Kozhikode.
