Now Let’s Try This On Our Own!

Create your own food chain below and remember to label the producer, primary

consumer, secondary consumer and tertiary consumer.

18. How might the lack of sunlight disrupt the food chain?

19. What would happen if the secondary consumer in your food chain became extinct?

Directions: Read each question and circle the correct answer below:

20. All plants are autotrophic. But there are no animals or fungi that are autotrophic, they are

all heterotrophic. What can you infer about autotrophic organisms?

a. All plants can move around on their own

c. All plants can make their own energy

b. All plants are at the top of the food chain

d. Plants only reproduce

21. In all food chains, all of the energy originally comes from:

a. The Sun

c. The Plants

b. The Moon

d. All the animals

22. In an ecosystem, there are always more:

a. Herbivores than carnivores

c. Heterotrophs than autotrophs

b. Fungi than animals

d. Animals than plants

23. What do primary consumers mainly eat?

a. Producers b. Secondary Consumers c. decomposers d. any consumer

If the secondary consumer became in extinct then there would be a disruption in the food chain. The tertiary consumers would not have food to eat. There would also be a surplus of

primary consumers because they will not be getting eaten.

Lack of sunlight will disrupt the food chain in a major way. All consumers rely on plants as their source of food. Without the sun, plant will not be able to make food.
