Introduction

The ¡Qué chévere! Lesson Plans are designed to show teachers how to incorporate the main student text, program resources, and digital

platform tools in Passport® for a successful planning and teaching experience. We have proposed a recommended path with additional options

so teachers may utilize our materials in a way that best fits their teaching objectives and styles, and their students’ needs.

The Lesson Plans are organized to follow the main sections in the student text: vocabulary, grammar, culture, and communicative development.

We recommend which section(s) to focus on each day, leaving teachers the flexibility to overlap content as needed. The information is

comprehensive, providing for input, practice, communicative development, and a formative assessment most days, with summative

assessments at the end of each unit. We are not suggesting that teachers complete all tasks every day, but rather select from the list which

activities are most conducive to developing each fundamental communicative skill, so that students achieve oral and cultural proficiency in

Spanish.

Overview The Lesson Plans include the activities from the ¡Qué chévere! student text, program resources, and Passport® tools and activities.

Program Resources • Can-Do Statements includes performance indicators for each mode of communication according to the proficiency levels identified by

ACTFL.

• Communicative Activities includes information gap, social media, and situation card activities.

• e-Visuals are images and scenes, accompanied by audio, to introduce and reinforce vocabulary.

• Flash Cards, powered by Quizlet®, provide extra vocabulary practice.

• Grammar and Vocabulary has grammar review charts and activities.

• Grammar Videos present the topic through a whiteboard animation.

• Heritage Learners includes activities for heritage learners.

• Integrated Performance Assessments includes one assessment per unit to assess proficiency in the three modes of communication.

• Juegos are interactive games that correlate to the vocabulary and grammar for each lesson.

• Listening Activities includes additional interpretive listening practice.

• Online Pre-Tests provide practice for the unit tests.

• Pre-AP Listening and Speaking includes one authentic audio source for each unit, with strategies and activities, as well as an interpersonal guided speaking task.

• Pre-AP Reading includes one authentic reading source per unit, accompanied by strategies and activities.

• Quizzes includes lesson quizzes and the answer key.

• Student Text has the core material to engage and motivate life-long Spanish learners.

• Tests includes one test per unit to assess speaking, listening, reading, and writing based on unit vocabulary, grammar, and culture. It also includes two achievement tests, one for midyear and one for the end of the course.

• TPR Storytelling includes step-by-step instructions for basic and advanced stories.

• Video Activities El cuarto misterioso contains the videos and accompanying activities for a continuous storyline series that reinforces each unit’s content.

• Videos de vocabulario en contexto present vocabulary and grammar in a communicative context.

• Workbook has activities that reinforce vocabulary, grammar, and cultural information.

Passport® tools • Discover Students connect to ¡Qué chévere! student textbook and program resources anytime, anywhere via interactive eBooks.

• Expand Students access a carefully curated collection of eReaders in the target language.

• Explore Students immerse themselves in language and culture through virtual field trips, news articles, video documentaries, and music.

• Share Students post their opinions, ideas, stories, and more, in a social media platform powered by

Integrating the Program Resources and Passport® into the Lesson Plans The activities provided in the Lesson Plans are labeled according to the Passport® tool from which they can be assigned. Below is a list of all

program resources and Passport® tools and activities as they are applied in the Lesson Plans. Each resource, tool, or activity is categorized as

input, practice, communication, or assessment.
