WHAT IS A RACK UNIT (RU)?

A working example of a server rack may include the following:

1RU Patch Panel x 2 = 2RU4RU Server x 1 = 4RU1RU Cable Management = 1RU2RU Power Rail = 2RU2RU Cantilever Shelf x 2 = 4RU

Total = 13RU

The above setup would require a cabinet height greater than 13RU (sum of the RU’s to be occupied). In this case the next size that could accommodate the 13RU requirements would be an 18RU cabinet.

A “Rack Unit” or RU is a unit of measurement describing the height of rack mount equipment.One rack unit is 1.75 inches or 44.45 mm high. Sever rack cabinets are measured in RU so that anyone can quickly and easily identify what the required height needs to be based of the number of “RU” being occupied by their equipment. A 19” cabinet is often supplied with a preset RU size. The 19” portion defines the width of the internal rack rails and is an indication that the rack is compatible with universal 19” rack mountable equipment sold by vendors worldwide. Although it is called a 19-inch rack unit, the actual mounting dimensions of a 19-inch rack unit are 18.312 inches or 465 mm wide, centre to centre.

INTEGRATED CABLE MANAGEMENT*The server rack features an integrated cable tray along the inner side of the cabinet. This great feature allows for cable management without using any rack units. This is also handy for space conscious installations where an 800 mm wide cabinet would not fit. It’s short on space without being short on features.

BI-FOLD MESH REAR DOORThese split rear doors greatly improve access to the cabinet as only limited clearance is needed to open the door in a small environment. This ensures this cabinet is ideal for data centres or space conscious environments. The 2-point locking system ensures the security of the cabinet and the stability of the door.

BAYING KITThis premium cabinet comes complete with a baying kit allowing you to join many cabinets together in a row.

CABLE ACCESSThe base of the cabinet is fitted with 8 plastic removable cable grommets and 4 steel rectangular cable glands. The roof of the cabinet has 4 large removable rectangular glands allowing easy cable access.

Our new Ultra-thin LSZH CAT6 cables are a great option for high density patch panels where every bit of space matters. CAT6 (or Category 6 cables) are built to handle Gigabit speeds and are backwards-compatible with CAT5E.
