A Little about ourselves


Here at Bespoke Timber Construction we understand the strains and stresses that buildings of this type are subjected to. Knowing this, we make our buildings exceptionally strong to cope with the rigours of use, not only by the occupant but also by age and the elements.

All the timber used in our Field Shelters is Tanalized, this means that there is no need for after-market treatments. Another benefit of this feature is little or no maintenance is required in the preservation of our buildings, although tanalized timber will take other colours and preservatives. Standard material specification for a field shelter of this type would include-• Field Shelters available as either mobile or static, mobile mounted on treated 90mm x 50mm rectangular box section.• Tanalized 4” x 2” interior framework• Half inch plywood kickboards lined to 4ft• Gutters along front and rear complete with down pipes (4 inch)• Onduline sheet roofing (other types optional) with 1 roof light per box• Tanalized double vertical overlap 6” x 3/4” cladding (horizontal tanalized cladding available)

StablesOur Stables are much the same range of specifications as the Field Shelters with the same options in roofing and cladding. Doors and windows featured in the stables section are available as stand alone items.

The Stables can either be a single block or up to as many as you require. Stable blocks can also be built in various formations, whichever suits your needs best.As with the Field Shelters all timber is tanalized. Standard Stable features are listed below.

• Tanalized 4” x 2” interior framework• Half inch plywood kickboards lined to 4ft• Gutters along front and rear complete with down pipes ( 4 inch) • Onduline sheet roofing (other types optional) with 1 roof light per 12ft box, usually at rear of stable.• Tanalized double vertical overlap 6” x 3/4” cladding (horizontal tanalized cladding available)• Sliding ventilator type window 3ft x 3ft in each box• Stable doors complete with fixings such as kick-over latches, heavy duty door bolts and anti-chew strips

Here at Bespoke Timber Construction of Cartmel we also offer numerous types of other buildings. These buildings are made using the same high quality materials and are constructed with the same high level of care and attention as our equestrian buildings.

This building shows a 4 bay car port with a bay used as a work shop. It has an asymmetrical roof pitch and roof lights. It is also a great example of how a timber building can blend in with its surroundings.

Doors and Windows



All our equestrian and domestic doors and windows are built using the same materials and constructed to the same high standards we pride ourselves on.

The industry standard size for the lower half of a stable door is 4ft x 4ft, all our stable doors come complete with an anti-chew strip as standard, heavy-duty door bolts, kick-over latch and plywood kickboards on the reverse of the door. The top half of the stable door measures 3ft x 4ft resulting in a total opening size of 7ft x 4ft. The top door is also supplied with another heavy-duty door bolt. All doors are made using tanalized framing and tanalised tongue and groove boarding.

The doors and windows on our buildings are built to the same high standards of the buildings themselves.

Our stable blocks come complete with one window (optional in a field shelter). The windows are 3ft x 3ft in size and are made of treated wood. They consist of a sliding ventilator arrangement in the bottom two thirds of the window with wire strengthened safety glass making up the top section.

Here at Bespoke of Cartmel we can offer you a range of options to complete your building as you wish, however if you have any requirements or suggestions not listed your ideas will be more than welcome, after all it is your building.

The photograph above shows a 24ft x 12ft mobile field shelter kitted out with an optional internal tack room at 6ft x 12ft. The door is a single skin tanalized tongue and groove door fitted with heavy duty hinges and door bolt.

We also offer horizontal cladding, which is an alternative to double vertical overlap cladding displayed in many photos throughout the brochure.

Mostly “ship-lap” cladding is used, We have however, use a variation of horizontal cladding materials depending upon what is required.

The buildings can be fitted out with a whole host of extras making life even more comfortable for the occupant such as-• Hay racks• External staining• Roof lights• Extra roof vents• Internal / external tack rooms• Extra windows• Full height plywood lining

This is an example of a standard single box field shelter (18ft x 12ft) with an over-sail, made with the double vertical overlap exterior cladding option. It has been sited on hardcore.

Our doors and windows (featured in the specifications on stables section) are also available as stand alone items, these are produced to the standard size previously listed but can be manufactured to any particular size if required. Fitting service of these and many other items also available.

Post and rail fencing is also available to accompany any existing paddock or field area you may have. The fencing shown in the photo is made up of half round rails (all other types available) and has wire mesh for extra security.
