During the inauguration Ms. Tina Sciabica,ExecutiveDirectorREADGlobal,ShriSuryaPratapSingh,UmaidLake Palace, Dr. Geeta Malhotra, Country Director READ India,Ms. Smita Anand Rai, Director of Partnerships and ResourceMobilisation,READIndiaandDr.K.K.Mishrawerepresent.Thiscommunity centre reaches out to the people of the communitythrough its different components like Library that opens thedoorforknowledgeand learning,sewing&stitchingalongwithhandicraftandhandloomsectionprovidesanopportunitytothewomenofthecommunitytolearnaskillthatcanhelpthemearnalivelihood.ComputersectionoftheCLRCprovidesanopportunity

Career Guidance and personality development session

Career counselling plays an important role in a youth’s life togivearightdirectiontohis/hercareerfocussingontheirinterestareas and personality development classes helps the youth tofacethechallengesrelatedtoemployability.Thesesessionshelpthestudentstoidentifytheirlifegoalsandmotives.ThesessionswereconductedatthegovernmentschoolsinTaoru,SonipatandAmazoncarescommunityoutreachcentreatManesarinHaryanafor the studentsof9thand10thby thevolunteers fromSchoolofInspiredLeadership(SOIL)thatcollaborateswithREADIndiaunder its Social Innovation Program. The topics coveredwere

: who am I? (SWOT Analysis), self – esteem, self- confidence,followed by various team building exercises. The motivationalsessionswiththestudentsfocussedonhelpingthemidentifytheircareer aspirations through counselling. The studentswere alsomadeawareoftheimportanceofEnglishasagloballanguage.

Similarly,asessionwasorganisedoncareerguidanceatDinghareriGovernmentSchoolinTaoru,Haryanaon20October2018byourresourcepersonMr.DeepakMighlani.Thesessionfocussedontheguidingthestudentswithexploringtheirinterestsinthesubjectsandaccordinglytakingupthestreamssothattheyselectdesiredcareerpath.

Blood donation Camp

Regularblooddonationsbyasufficientnumberofhealthypeopleareneededtoensurethatsafebloodwillbeavailablewheneverandwhereveritisneeded.AblooddonationcampwasconductedatRCMHighSchoolon15December2018.ThecampwassupportedbyNew lifeHospital andLionsClub. 21donorsdonatedblood.IFF’spurchasemanagerMr.Vijayakanthalongwithhisdaughtervisitedthecampfordonatingbloodforagoodcause.

Malnutrition- The lack of required Nutrients

Malnutrition,definedasillhealthcausedbydeficienciesofcalories,protein, vitamins, andminerals interacting with infections and

other poor health and social conditions, graduallyweakens thestrength andwell-being in early years. It is important to raiseawareness from time to time among the people about what ismalnutrition and the reasons and health problems associatedwithit.

Consideringtheneedofcreatingtheawarenessamongpeople,on20thDecember2018aHealthAwarenesssessiononMalnutritionwasorganisedattheAnganwadi,Jamalpurvillage,ManesarwithAnganwadichildrenalongwiththeirmothers.Thesessionprovedbeneficialforthemothersinthecommunitythathelpedthemtogetawareaboutthecausesofmalnutritioninchildrenandidentifythewaysinwhichproperdietcanbeplannedthatprovidesalltherequirednutrientsandproteinsleadingtowardsgoodhealth.

National digital literacy Mission (NdlM)

NationalDigitalLiteracyMissionaimstoprovidedigitalliteracytoeveryIndian.MakingonepersonineveryfamilydigitallyliterateisoneoftheintegralcomponentsofthePrimeMinister’svisionof“DigitalIndia”.TheNationalDigitalLiteracyMissionisadynamicand integratedplatformofdigital literacyawareness,educationandcapacityprogrammesthatwillhelpruralcommunitiesfullyparticipateintheglobaldigitaleconomy.NDLMwasimplementedthrough the Amazon Cares Community Outreach centre underREADIndiaatsonepat,ManesarandHyderabad.

The beneficiaries post the registration underwent a course fortheperiodof20days(1hourperday).Theylearntfundamentalsofthecomputersfromstartingthecomputer,basicsofMicrosoftOffice,learningtheadvantagesofInternetandE-Mailoperating/

usage. The beneficiaries were also made familiar with ‘GoingCashless’throughPaytmandotheronlinepaymentplatforms.

Technology Empowering Girls (TeG)

Technology Empowering Girls ‘TeG’, an initiative by NASSCOMFoundation isonesucheffort toaddto thevision“Digital India2022”withaparticularspotlightonwomenandadolescentgirlsfrommarginalised communities in semi urban and rural India.There are dedicated hours that have been structured for thebeneficiariesofTeGcourseonsoftskillssuchascommunicationskills, interview skills, knowing your -self, self- presentation,self-grooming , and importance of positive body language for asuccessfulpersonal/professionallife.

Techno santa (Technological santa) - on25December2018 an awareness campaignwasconducted through Techno Santaas part of Christmas celebrationsat READ CLRC, Dwarka. The roleof Techno Santa was played by abeneficiary of TeG (TechnologyEmpowering Girls) whocommunicated the importanceof technology and its advantagesto the community. This eventcould successfully convey theimportance of technology amongthecommunityandconveyedhowtechnology can empower girls/women.

NGO MelaREADIndiathroughitscommunityoutreachcentrestriestoprovidedifferent skill trainings to the women of the community whichhelpsthemgetasourceoflivelihood.Withthefocusonsewingandstitchingandhandcrafts.TheskilledcommunitywomenconnectedtoAmazoncarescommunityoutreachCLRCunderREADIndiaatTaoru,Manesar,SonipatandHyderabadreceivedanopportunitytogettheproductsmadebythemtobedisplayedintheAmazonFulfilmentcentreson15and16October.

AstallwasexhibitedatFConaccountofDiwalicelebrationsnamed‘NGOMela’-thatrepresentedvariousproductsmadeatthecentresandgaveachancetothestaffattheFC’stoshowcasetheskillsofthecommunitywomenintheformofthevarietyofproductsmadeby them like cushion covers,Diyas,Gel andwax candles, kurtis,palazzosetc.On5thDecember,FleaMarketStallwasorganizedatAllHandsMeetinHyderabadandBangalore.Alltheproductsmade

by thewomen in theSelfHelpgroupsreceivedagoodresponseandprovedtobesourceofmotivationforthebeneficiaries.

Awareness on Government schemesGovernmenthas started various schemes for the empowermentofwomen.People inruralareasarenotawareof thesebenefits.An awareness session was conducted by Mahila Aarthik VikasMahamandal , (State governmentdepartment), a lecturebyMr.Udawant (Coordinator of - MAVIM) was organised on variousgovernment schemes supporting women empowerment. Thesessionwasorganisedon10thOctober2018at theREADCLRCat Karmad (Maharashtra) supported by Perkins where Mr.Udavantprovidedinformationaboutvariousschemesforwomenempowerment such as self-help groups, small-scale industry,Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana and procedural formalitiesrequiredtostartavailingbenefitsofthesegovernmentsupportedentrepreneurialschemes.

Orientation sessionwas organised underNTT (Nursery TeachersTraining)forthepreschoolteachers and librarians ofREAD centres at Karmad,Aurangabadcentreon8thand 9th December 2018by Ms. Vandana Dhingra,in the presence of Dr.Geeta Malhotra, CountryDirector,READIndia.

TheaimofREADIndiaindevelopmentoftheruralcommunities,it is well supported by PwC through various events conductedat READ India CLRC under PWC. One of such events are thevolunteeringeventsnamed‘Prayas’inwhichthevolunteersfromPWCparticipateandengagewithcommunity.

Theeventofthisquarterwasdividedintothreesectionsinvolvingthe women and children of the community. These activitiesfocussedonencouraging,motivatingwomenbeneficiariesthroughactivities likeknowyourself,discussingabouttheirdreamsandaspirations. The volunteers awarded the community memberswhoalready completedvarious courses at the centre likebasiccomputers,basicandadvancesewing&stitchingwithcertificates.

On13thDecember2018,awarenesssessionongarbagedisposalandwastemanagementwasorganizedatAmazonCaresCommunityoutreachcentreatDingarheri(Satellitecentre)andgovernmentschoolatShekhpur,Taoru.Thesessionsareconductedregularlyandfocusesoncreatingbasicawarenessonsegregationofdryandwetwaste.Postersweredistributeddescribingwastesegregationmethod.

InobservanceofInternationalGirlChildday,on11October2018an awareness session was organised at RCM high school at StThomasMount,Chennai.Total75girlsfromtheagegroup12to

15yearshadparticipated.TheCLRCstaffconductedthesessionwheretheparticipantsweremadeawareabouttheimportanceofGirlchilddayfollowedbydiscussiononsuccessstoriesofwomen.

National Book week

NationalBookWeekiscelebratedeveryeartocommemoratethebirthdayoffirstPrimeMinisterofIndia,PanditJawaharlalNehru.ThecelebrationsalloverthecountrycommencefromChildren’sDay i.e. 14 November and continue until 20 November. PanditJawaharlal Nehru loved children. He envisaged a future wherechildrenwillgrowupinanenvironmentofbookreadingandbookbuying. In connection with National BookWeek, an event wasorganisedattheREADIndiaCLRCunderInternationalFlavoursandFragrancesatGosaiganj,Lucknowinwhichaseriesofactivitieswereconductedwiththestudents,whichdisplayedtheirwritingskills,andtheyweremotivatedtoreadbooksthroughthemodeofreadingactivities.

Globalhandwashingdayisacampaigntomotivateandmobilizepeople around the world to improve the hand washing habitsamongthem.ThisdaywascelebratedatthegovernmentschoolsofTaoruandManesaron5thand8thOctober2018bytheCLRC’sofAmazonCaresunderREADIndia.Theprogramfocussedonbasicintroduction of the students with the importance and purposeofcelebratingtheglobalhandwashday, inwhichstudentsweremadeawareaboutthebasicstepsinvolvedinwashingofhandsfollowedbypracticaldemonstration.TheeventwasalsopartofthevolunteeringopportunityforthestafffromtheAmazonFCatTaoruandManesar.Theeventprovedtobeaninformativesessionforthestudents.

World Aids day

World Aids Day was observed at the READ India CLRC underIFFatChennai,whereanawarenesssessionwasconductedon1December2018 inwhich thebeneficiariesparticipatedandgotawarenessaboutthebackground,causesandimpactofHIV/AIDSdisease. The Librarian and Project Coordinator conducted thissession at the centre. End of this session CLRC distributed redribbon at the centre and street as part ofHIV/AIDS awarenessactivities.

Christmas celebration

ChristmaswascelebratedattheREADIndiaCLRCandSpringwoodPre-SchoolunderPWCon21stDecember2018.Thecelebrationwitnessed the participation of the volunteers from PWC whoencouragedandcomplementedthestaffandchildren.Theeventwascelebratedthroughvariousperformancesofmusicanddancebythechildrenofthecommunitycentreandthepre-school.Theevent was enjoyable for the children which concluded by cakecutting.

dOllYDolly; 20 years married at the age of 16 years,Duetolackoffamilysupport,shehadtomarriedat a very early age. Engaged in new householdresponsibilities and family she was not able toconcentrateoncareer,asshehadnoideaonhowtopursueorworkforitfurther.

Itwaswhenshewaslookingforadirectiontomoveaheadher friendstoldher, thatTeG(TechnologyEmpowering Girls) program is running in theNDMCPublicLibrary,LaxmiBaiNagar.

ShejoinedtheTeGprogram.Duringtheprogram,shecouldlearnbasicsofcomputer,fromswitchingitontousingMicrosoftOffice,surfinginternettogetvitalinformation,sendinge-mails,saferuseofsocialmediaandusingonlinepurchaseportals.

After completing the program, she is nowemployedandisnowworkingin“AuthentictravelTellyseller”.
