Page 1: Question 1

The simple two frame lip sequence is used in very visually appealing music videos.

I found that Azealia Banks video for 1991 follows a similar pattern but with her top half of the body. Also her lips stand out as the darkest but our artists lips stand out for its colour.

We decided to use lips in our video as it expresses femininity and beauty but also power of the voice which is what the song is about; expressing your opinion.

Page 2: Question 1

The mid shot of our girl group “Midnight Effect” conveys a sisterhood with Pati putting her arm on Jade’s shoulder whilst Eleanor brings her chest to Jade’s other arm.

It is a girl group convention to have 3 or more members, within these photos the members are close together like the still.

Page 3: Question 1

The nature sequence has been given a colour correction effect to emphasise the autumn colours; which is the album theme “Fall”.

The effect gives it a more hippie look to the video with the guitar riffs playing over giving it a cinematic aspect to it. Like in Lana Del Ray’s Blue Jeans video using the location to tell the story.

Page 4: Question 1

The flashback sequences is a convention if the song and music video is telling a narrative. The use of saturation making it visually cold and stone like given the audience the feel of that the lead singer’s solo is about the bad times of her now ex lover.

Page 5: Question 1

We decided that stop motion would give this video an edge and that indie rock uses quirky technology in their music videos.

These examples use mainly stop motion in all of their music videos.

Page 6: Question 1

The darkness and the lighting show the drum which is an essential part of a song as it gives it a beat.

Page 7: Question 1

Jade’s spinning sequence gives it an effect and focus on Jade whilst the camera is spinning blurring the background.

I see this effect done before in many music videos but not as much as Ronan Keating’s Rollaocoster video.

Page 8: Question 1

Slow motion is used to emphasise the drum hitting the flour covered drum conveying a sense of power in the song and music video. This technique of slow motion is used nearly in every music video to emphasise the impact or image.

Page 9: Question 1

The digi-pack and magazine advert have the same theme which is autumn. The colour purple shows femininity and it’s a colour which is used for indie rock women as women in pop have pink or a deep red for their colours.

Indie bands with women do not focus on one person its about being part of the gang or sisterhood.
