Q1. In What Ways Does Your Media Products Use, Develop

And Challenge Forms And Conventions Of Real Media

Products?

Page 2: Question 1

USE(MAGAZINE)

I used the big title across the magazine and kept it white. The reason why I chose this is because I felt like this was effective, it caught my eye immediately and I acknowledged that it’s the most important part of the magazine.

From this magazine I took this “Exclusive” part and added it in mine because I felt like it brought it out from the other magazines.

USE (POSTER)

Here I used this motion of the black and white cartoon effect because I felt like it visually it was interesting to look at.

I also incorporated the font style because I felt like it was a great effect and really brought out the grubbiness of the film.

DEVELOP(MAGAZINE)

I took the idea from the Sight&Sound magazine to place a boarder around my magazine. However, I’ve developed my idea by having the boarder across the top and bottom and made it seem like police tape.

Even though I took the idea of having a big font across the magazine, I changed the style of the font to suit the genre of my film.

DEVELOP(POSTER)

I have placed a slogan on my film poster just like the Green Street poster. The thing which I have changed is the place of where the slogan has been put. I decided to put it underneath the title because I felt like it fit best and it complimented the title.

I took the idea of black and white. However, I developed my idea more by making it look much more surreal and unique by using a threshold effect.

Even though the idea of having a similar style font I stole from the poster, I changed the the colour of the title because I felt like white stood out best against the black. Also its easier to read.

CHALLENGE(MAGAZINE)

The masthead is completely different to the Sight&Sound magazine. The reason why I did this was because I wanted to make my magazine look bold. Whereas the Sight&Sound magazine is quite subtle.

As you can see the image is completely different because the director is the main subject. Whereas, I’m talking about the film so I wanted to balance out the attention along my magazine.

I have a black background because I felt my image contrasted against it so it worked well. Whereas, the magazine on the right has no back ground because the image fulfills the magazine cover.

I placed many more stories than the Sight&Sound magazine so the audience were aware of the social realist genre. On the contrary, this magazine wouldn’t need stories to clarify anything because Tarantino is a world wide phenomenon.

Page 7: Question 1

CHALLENGE(POSTER)

I place the actors names across the top unlike the Green Street poster because I felt like my actors need recognition. Whereas, people already have prior knowledge of the actors used in Green Street.

The Green Street Poster has images across the bottom and top. Whereas, mine are kept central. The reason for this is because I felt like the layout of my poster is much more easier to understand for w viewer.

I placed the credits and awards along the bottom because looking at other social realist posters majority shown the awards which they have achieved for it. Unlike the Green Street poster, where it doesn’t even need awards to engage the viewers attraction.

I also added the star rating so audiences would look at my film and be impressed by it.
