In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and

conventions of real media? Poster.

Researching existing posters.

Here I have done some research on well known film posters. I did this because I wanted my own products to look as professional as they could. I then decide to place pictures of existing posters in Microsoft publisher and analysis each of the pictures. This system will help me to decide which techniques to use on my own poster.

Typical conventions of real media.

On my poster I have added typical conventions that you would see on all film posters such as: • Credits,• Released date,• Picture, • Title of film, • Actors name. All of these conventions are necessary as it tells us more information about the film. For example Lily Attwood stars in this film and she might have stared in other films. This might make people who weren't sure if they were going to see the film now go and see it because they have seen her in other projects and think she's good.

Conventions of real media. On my poster I have placed my actors name at the top. I have used this convention from the inception poster. This meant that the text didn’t get in the way but it could still be seen clearly.

On my poster the picture fills up the whole of the poster. I have also used the picture of the character appearing round the door. I developed this convention from 100 Feet. Instead of my character looking at the camera I decided I wanted her to look away from the camera. This makes her look more vulnerable. However I have challenged conventions of real media as there are hardly any posters that have a black and white background.

Conventions of real media.

I have placed my title under my character's picture. I used this convention from the Black Swan poster. I liked how you could clearly see the title and that the actor could be associated with the film title which is what I wanted.

Conventions of real media.

I have placed all of my credits under my title at the bottom of my poster. I did this because I felt it made my poster look professional and neat and tidy. I used this convention from Inception’s poster and Black Swan’s poster.

I have also used typical dark colours for a dark film such as white red and black. Black Swan, Inception and 100 Feet are all dark film so I decided I had chosen the right colours and used this convention.
