“When we pull together, we can achieve great things.”

At a news conference earlier this year, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon praised progress made toward the MDGs. Ban cited preliminary estimates indicating that the MDG of halving the proportion of people living in extreme poverty was achieved in 2010. Deaths from tuberculosis have declined by 40 percent since 1990, and malaria deaths have declined by nearly a third in the past decade. “When we pull together,” said Ban at the news conference, “we can achieve great things.” (via UN News Centre).

Living proof: A showcase of incredible progress

We’re not only making significant progress toward weakening the connection between poverty and ill health, we’re sharing stories of how we’re doing it. The UN has compiled brief, country-by-country examples of progress toward each of the eight Millennium Development Goals. For a more in-depth set of progress stories, visit Living Proof, a “showcase of stories” from the ONE Campaign.
