Question 3-What kind of media

Institutions might distributeyour media and why?

Out of the main media institutions I have decided I would choose Bauer media. Bauer publish on both paper (magazine0 and online therefore they will be able to reach a larger audience which will be key for my magazines success. Having a magazine that publishes online will mean that it can be updated 24/7 and be able to keep up to my customers needs.Bauer will be the best for my magazine because it is experienced in publishing music magazines such as Q, MOJO and Kerrang. All of these magazines are based at a certain audience, 16-35 year olds which my audience group fits into, there is definitely space in Bauer’s industry for my magazine. In addition to the around 230 magazines they publish in 15 different countries. This could also help my magazine be branched out to a much larger audience than just the UK. I feel Bauer is more suitable for my magazine compared to something such as IPC because the amount of experience they have is key in helping make my magazine popularThe Bauer website is a lot more developed and interactive which suggests to me that the website for my magazine will be of a similar type, which for me comes across attractive as it means my magazines website would be attractive and interactive to the reader.

In my opinion no other industries match up to what Bauer could do for my magazine, with how they branch out to audiences, popularity and revenue.

The second media industry I looked at was IPC media. From the start I could see that IPC is not as big as Bauer. Never the less they still publish quite a large amount of magazines. One of the main reasons why I have decided against opting for IPC to publish my magazine is that they only really publish one music magazine which is NME. The other magazines they post tend to be aimed at a more mature audience such as ‘Golf Monthly’ and ‘Woman and Home’.

IPC still reach to 26 million UK adults amongst their productions, also their digital websites build up around 25 million views each month. Nevertheless IPC is still very UK based and don’t particularly branch out to other countries which could lose me some potential viewers.

I feel that choosing Bauer would enable my product to bloom in the industry within its niche market.

I feel my media product could be very successful on both paper and online if it is published with Bauer. My magazine would be able to have its own website and a possible app. This would be beneficial to readers as it means the information could be updated 24/7 meaning there will always be some new news. Having something such as an app means that the readers wouldn’t have to go to a store or go out of their way to read ‘Pulse’ magazine as it could be found on their mobile or other forms of technology.

There is also the opportunity (shown above) when working with Bauer for there to be a subscription service where they can either be able to read the full magazine online or have the paper version posted to them weekly.
