QUESTION 3What kind of media institution might

distribute your media product and why?

Page 2: Question 3

I believe a company such as Universal would be likely to distribute our media product due to its wide range of genres and high popularity. They are also good with distributing the mainstream productions that would appeal to the target audience of our media production.

Page 3: Question 3

Which cinemas would be most likely to exhibit your film?I believe our film would do well in the multiplex cinemas such as VUE or ODEON, as our film is more likely to appeal to a more niche audience. When looking at the newer releases all the films on there are the films that are going to win awards such as ‘Batman v Superman’ and ‘Midnight Special’. These films would not really be interesting the target audience of the film, but younger male audiences. Therefore, creating a opening slot for our audience to be able to watch something. The normal multiplex cinemas also have a lower price on tickets compared to the independent cinemas, appealing to our younger audience a lot more as not many students between the ages of 16-19 have the money to go to the cinema. The production would not do well in a independent cinema, that similar to Cinema City. When looking at their film listings compared to ODEON’s films such as ‘Eddie The Eagle’ and ‘Victoria’ appear which would stereotypically not appeal to our audience demographic. However, it Is not the same situation with ODEON where there would be an opening for a film with our demographic, most films played in Cinema City are that for an older audience, of 30+ due to it’s use of specialised films for niche audiences such as ‘The Man Who Knew Infinity’.  Overall I would choose to have our production shown in mainstream cinema, due to it’s lower prices and modern films that would appeal to a wider audience demographic.

How would digital technologies offer new distribution activities?Different digital technologies would help with distribution of our thriller Cyberbully.  Firstly, due to our audience demographic being between the ages of 16-19 social media is a very influential on their lives, things such as Facebook and Twitter help get publicity. For example, the use of Twitter releasing the trailers for Suicide Squad have helped get it a large amount of publicity. Similar with other social media apps such as Snapchat creating picture filters for newly released films such as Batman V Superman. This could be done with our thriller production through sponsorships and hashtags that can trend across the world which could later increase the audience. Other websites like YouTube would be able to advertise trailers and videos creating a even larger, wider demographic. Film-on-demand services such as Netflix, LoveFilm and Amazon Prime could also distribute the film. This is suitable for the age range of our target audience as video-on-demand is very popular within teenagers, as it is cheap and accessible. There are a wide range of thrillers that are distributed on these websites, for example, on Netflix thrillers such as Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Vol.2.
