INITIAL THOUGHTS

• Pop genre targeted to a mature female only audience

• Adapted my target audience to suit the pop genre – ages 8-16 mostly female

Page 3: Question 4

WHO IS MY TARGET AUDIENCE

• Mostly females

• Aged 8-16 (young teen)

• Primary/ secondary school students

• Pop lovers

• At first I wanted to create a new pop music magazine addressed to a sophisticated mature audience of woman only. However after analysing existing media products, I thought it would be most effective for Bloom to shift the target audience age range to a younger generation of 8-16 year olds so young teens as its easier to create conventions addressed to this particular age range and this is the age most interested in the pop genre of music. I chose the genre Pop as I am most familiar and passionate in this field of music therefore can create a magazine to cater for this target audience.

Page 4: Question 4

HOW DID I DECIDE THIS

• Audience research for people ages 8+ - found the younger generation to like pop more

• Survey monkey – what people want from a magazine

• Sound test – found the gender that were most interested in Pop music to be female

• Research on Pop genre to find the age group who listen to Pop music

• Audience research to see who would read Bloom

• Audience feedback on each draft of my product to see who was interested in Bloom magazine

• Looking at similar existing media products and comparing the target audience, for example We Love Pop and Top Of The Pops.

EXAMPLE OF TARGETED AUDIENCE

Here is an audience profile I have produced after choosing an appropriate target audience for Bloom.
