How did you attract/address your audience?

I tried to attract the audience of my media product through the use of images, colours, competitions, freebies and cover lines.

The images I have chosen to use in my magazine help to attract and address my audience as I have used a 19 year old girl and a 17 year old girl who are within the age range that my magazine is aimed at, they are also of the same gender. On the front cover and contents page I have dressed the model in very feminine, glamorous and fun clothing to suggest an aspirational figure therefore appealing to my target audience. The facial expressions and body language that the models portray are quite relaxed, positive and happy which suggests the pop genre of music and therefore appeals to my target audience.

I have used the colour pink a lot throughout my media product as it shows connotations of femininity, it also conforms to the stereotype of women being associated with the colour pink therefore addressing a female audience. I also think the colour pink is quite fun and bold which is suitable for the age range of my target audience.

On the front cover I have included competitions such as winning tickets to see Ed Sheeran. This is likely to attract my target audience as the artist I have chosen ‘Ed Sheeran’ is of a pop and R&B genre, it also suggests to the audience that they’re getting more for their money and gives them another reason to buy the magazine.

I have also included ‘free posters’ in my media product to attract the reader. From research I did, I found that most people are likely to buy a magazine if it includes a freebie as they feel as though they are getting an exclusive product without having to pay, therefore I included ‘free posters’ on the cover of my magazine.

For the title of my magazine, the main heading of the contents page and the main heading of the double page article I have used large bold fonts in bold or bright colours. This is so that it catches the eye of the audience and instantly attracts them to the main text. On the contents page I have included bold writing to highlight buzz words such as ‘free’ to attract the audiences attention to certain text on the page and make it stand out.

On the contents page I have included links to social networking sites such as Facebook, twitter and YouTube. This is likely to attract the attention of my target audience as they are teenagers and young adults, therefore they are more likely to be associated with these sites.
