What Have You Learnt About Technologies From The Process Of Constructing This Product

EditingThe first piece of technology we used when producing the final media product was editing software called Serif MoviePlus. This program allowed the user to import audio and video and then edit them by cutting and adding effects like text or cross fades. Using MoviePlus also allowed me to learn how to properly align videos and audio together; this also allowed me to add in audio later if we weren’t able to capture audio properly while filming. While editing different videos, it quickly became apparent that everyone filming needed to allow for a buffer of at least 5 seconds as it made the editing process easier.MoviePlus also allowed the user to add special effects to the video afterwards. The effects that we used was a greyscale effect. This made the video turn black/white which conveyed the feeling of darkness that we needed (as we were filming during the day).

After using this editing software throughout the AS media course, I feel as if I have become a much more capable editor as I have learnt new techniques.I used MoviePlus throughout all the stages of production (Pre-Production, Production and Post-Production) because we filmed things like practice sequences that gave an outlook on how we wanted our film to be; during this time of using MoviePlus, I have vastly improved with the editing software as I have learnt how to properly use effects and how to effectively cut clips and audio together, I have also learnt how to use special types of transitions sparingly (for example, using a special fade transition to show the passing of time).

CameraDuring the project, we also used a camera and tripod. This was a major part of the opening sequence project as we needed it to film our media product.

This camera allowed us to record movement, angles and shots that we wanted for our opening sequence. Getting the right angles and movement was extremely important for our opening sequence in order to create the atmosphere we wanted to. The camera’s tripod let us get shots that were level (or uneven if we wanted a canted angle), it also allowed us to keep tracking shots steady if we wanted the camera to follow the action.

The camera was very easy to use, but it allowed to get complex shots if we needed too. As a group, we all grasped onto the concept of using it very quickly and we were able to use it properly after very little practice.

YouTube/Blogger/InternetThroughout the production of the media product, YouTube, Blogger and the Internet were very useful tool for research that I needed. For example, I could easily find other opening sequences on Blogger or YouTube, or if I needed inspiration for my opening sequence, I could find clips from other movies that I would want to have a similar vibe to my opening sequence. I often used clips from YouTube as inspiration as I would find clips from movies like Se7en and Prisoners as I wanted my opening sequence to be similar to them.
