QUESTION 7LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT?

Page 2: Question 7

In September, when I began this course, for the preliminary task I made a magazine cover and contents page which would be sold in a school and read by the students. Within the last few months my skills have improved considerably. I have learnt many new techniques and skills in both Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. Below is my front cover and contents page for the school magazine. By using Photoshop and InDesign I have been able to make a magazine that looks more professional that that of my preliminary task. On the right are both my preliminary task cover and contents next to my final construction of my cover and contents page. My preliminary task is missing key features that a magazine needs such as price, barcode and date. It also lacks information on what the reader will find inside as I used very few cover lines.

By looking at my preliminary task next to my final magazine, it shows how my skills have developed as I improved the quality of my product using the different software.

• My preliminary task was the first time I used Adobe Photoshop, this is clear in the way I have placed and cut around my images. By using the pen tool on Adobe Photoshop, I was able to cut around my images neatly.

• I did not use any editing within my preliminary task such as the blemish remover tool and alteration of lighting, which I used to produce my final product.

• I made improvements on both my text and images by altering the layer options and adding things such as a drop shadow behind the text to make it stand out. My text shows more variation in my final product, altering in both colour, size and font style.

• I have also displayed how my skills have improved by manipulating the image to make it look more professional. I did this by altering the hue and saturation of the image. I also used the pen tool to select areas such as the model’s lips and nails to change the colour so they match the masthead and magazine colour scheme.

• My contents page also misses key features such as an editor’s note and uses just one image
