My research and planning skills have improved greatly since my prelim task to my final product. When planning my prelim task my main focus was on colours. I didn’t really look much into other magazines and the layout of my magazine as much as I did with my final product. On my final product I looked into model poses and kept to a colour scheme which wasn’t too vibrant and less in your face., which I realised isn’t going to sell a magazine. You need a happy medium between vibrant and dull! On my final product I did a lot of other magazines of my genre and also compared it to other genres to make sure I didn’t get the look of it mixed up with other genres.

The final product flat plan also looks a lot better and definitely looks like more thought has gone into it, also a skyline and the barcode and website and costumes were thought about on the final plan too but not so much on the prelim.

I did not look into fonts much on my prelim product and just used a one already loaded into the computer but I found the fonts were very important as they carried the house style throughout all the magazine pages and it took me a while to find the ones which suited my magazine and its target audience. I took into consideration the gender age and background of the target audience and this came across in the magazine. I got this information through focus groups to find what they found most appealing in magazines.

I also asked them about costume and makeup and put a lot of thought into these things.

ConstructionIts clear to see that my skills have developed from my prelim to my final product. My photoshop skillsdeveloped from putting words anda picture onto a page to becominga lot more advanced to putting strokes on the text,

adding boxes and making them the same colour and using InDesign much more easily and being able to add structure to the contents page instead of it being boxes placed anywhere.

I have learnt how to edit images on Photoshop and i take a lot more care with the layout of the contents and front cover and the editing of the pages. I learnt how to get the lighting right in my final product with the setting up of the lighting. The ratio of image to text also seems a lot better and the text is not too big and the alignment of the images and text (especially on the contents) seems a lot better than on the prelim and looks like it fits in a lot better. The content of the magazine is a lot different to the prelim and there is a lot more of it so it looks more official. Also the sections I have split them into have titles to make it easier to navigate around. If I hadn’t done the prelim task I don’t think my skills would have had chance to develop and my final product wouldn't have been as good.
