Q7) LOOKING BACK AT THE PRELIMINARY
TASK, WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT IN THE
PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL
PRODUCT?
WHAT I (DIDN’T) KNEW BEFORE THE
PRELIMINARY TASK:
• When I started I did know how to film with a camera, but that is about it. The
only other think I knew was Facebook.
• I didn’t know any shot types such as close ups or long shots.
• I didn’t know the editing software and also I didn’t know any editing techniques
and how to work the software FinalCutPro.
• I didn’t even know Tumblr or Slideshare or Prezi or Presentme or ISSUU.
• I didn’t know how to film good shots and how to get a good shot.
• Also I didn’t know what tracking shot or tripod or crane are.
• Also I didn’t know how to organize a filming day and how to get everyone to
bring everything and be there on time.
WHAT I KNOW NOW:
• Now I know a big range of shot types, such as ECU, CU, MS, MLS or LS.
• I also know how to work on FinalCutPro and I know a big range of editing techniques, such as SRS or eye line match or jump cut.
• I now know how to work with the crane and the tripod and the tracking shot.
• I am able to use a big range of technology, such as ISSUU, Prezi, Slideshare, Tumblr and Presentme.
• I know how to set up the focus on the camera and how to move the tripod while I am filming without having any wobbling.
• Also I now know what it takes to organize a filming day and to get everyone to do the right thing at the right time for the film.
• But not only that also I learned how to organize my whole coursework and split the work within the group so that everyone has an equal part for the whole result.
THAT MEANS:
Before I started the course I didn’t know anything about filming. With progressing in the
course I got used to all the new technology and I am confident in using them. I have
learned everything you have to learn while you are studying media. I learned different
shot types, editing techniques, filming equipment and management of filming crew. But I
also learned lots about thriller films. We learned key codes and conventions if thriller
films, such as bad weather, weak blonde female as the protagonist, strong male as the
antagonist, low key lighting, mise en scene, dramatic music. Also we talked about
different film opening, such as classical opening and montage opening. We have learned
how to use FinalCutPro. We have used Green Screen as well. Also we have learned what
the different age classifications include and what ingredients are includes for what age
group. There are also subgenres of thriller which we have talked about. We have also
learned to make questionnaires and response to the result. We have considered all the
results in our final film and so responded to what the audience wanted to see.
