1. Getting started with Rockwell Studio 5000

1.1. Configuring HarshIO module with EDS file.

1.1.1. EDS File Before proceeding to the product commissioning, the HarshIO module requires a description file (also called EDS file) that shall be imported in the Rockwell Automation Studio™ 5000 software. The EDS file as well as the product documentation can be downloaded from the Molex web site.

1.1.2. Import HarshIO EDS file into Rockwell hardware library

To start the commissioning, the first step is to import the HarshIO EDS file into Rockwell hardware library by using Rockwell Automation RSLinx™ software. Start RA RSLinx software.

Select Menu Communications/Configure Drivers…

Select EtherNet/IP Driver

Check that the Driver is running.

RSLinx is now browsing the network to detect the EtherNet/IP devices. At this stage, the HarshIO eIP module is detected but appears with an icon representing a question mark because the EDS file is not yet imported.

Search for Vendor Molex and select in the Catalog the HarshIO module. Select the module TCIEI-888-DxU, right-click on mouse and select Create

Give a Name and set the module IP address.

Then select the type and size of the I/O connections. By default an Exclusive Owner connection with 4 bytes IO-Link process data is configured. Select Change button to modify the connection configuration.

Note! Remember the HarshIO module supports different process IO-Link data size to optimize the frame size on the network and limit the memory space used in the CPU. Available size are:

Digital I/O data + 04 bytes I/O data per IO-Link device

Digital I/O data + 08 bytes I/O data per IO-Link device

Digital I/O data + 32 bytes I/O data per IO-Link device Refer to chapter I/O data mapping for more information.

Note! Only one single Exclusive Owner connection can be configured for the module.

Click on the connection and select one from the drop down list. For each connection, the size in bytes is displayed for information.

EO: Exclusive Owner connection

IO: Input Only connection

LO: Listen Only Connection

See chapter I/O messaging in the user’s manual for the explanation of the different type and use of the connections. Select OK and Yes to apply the modifications. Select the Connection tab to configure the RPI, the I/O connection type (Unicast or Multicast) and the exchange mode (Cyclic or Change-of-State).

Note! The HarshIO eIP module supports RPI up to 2ms packet interval.

Note! Remember a RPI set at

ms generate 1000 packets per second (500x packets from Scanner to HarshIO + 500x packets from HarshIO to Scanner)

4ms generate 500 packets per second (250x packets from Scanner to HarshIO + 250x packets from HarshIO to Scanner)

8ms generate 250 packets per second (125x packets from Scanner to HarshIO + 125x packets from HarshIO to Scanner)

Etc

1.1.4. Modifying HarshIO module parameters in RSLogix 5000 software

Go online and double click on HarshIO module. Select Module Info tab to display HarshIO module information.

Select Internet Protocol tab to configure IP address settings of HarshIO module.

Select Port Configuration tab to setup HarshIO Ethernet ports of the integrated 2-port switch.

1.1.5. Configuration of the IO channel

The HarshIO is running (an active connection is established between the EtherNet/IP scanner and the module). The next step is to set parameters in the Configuration Assembly of the module to configure the behavior of each I/O channel (input, output or IO-Link). See the chapter Configuration data mapping for compete description of the memory mapping. In the example, I will set:

Channel C0 in IO-Link mode HARSHIO.C.Data[7] = 3 Channel C1 in Digital Input HARSHIO.C.Data[4] = 0 Channel C8 in IO-Link mode HARSHIO.C.Data[135] = 3 Channel C9 in Digital Output HARSHIO.C.Data[132] = 1 Channel C10 in IO-Link mode HARSHIO.C.Data[167] = 3 Channel C11 in Digital Input inverted HARSHIO.C.Data[164] = 0

HARSHIO.C.Data[166] = 1

Note! When the Configuration assembly is set, the module connection needs to be reset to send the parameters to the HarshIO.

As a result, the HarshIO has channels C0, C8 and C10 blinking in blue (pre-operate state) waiting the connection of IO-Link devices.

1.2. Configuring HarshIO module with generic profile.

The first step is to add a HarshIO in the configuration of a Rockwell Scanner supporting EtherNet/IP by selecting "ETHERNET-MODULE" (Generic Ethernet Module) device as shown below.

And select Create. In the configuration of the "ETHERNET-MODULE", set the parameters of the HarshIO with the following properties (corresponding to Digital I/O data + 04 bytes data per IO-Link device):

See IO data mapping chapter in the user’s manual for more instance numbers and sizes.

Size of each parameter

IP address of HarshIO
