Instructions for Making Woven Panties with Knit Bands

For 18” Dolls

Helpful Information: These panties were designed for woven cotton panty and t-shirt knit waist and leg bands. Upcycled t-shirts cut into 1.5” strips work fine. 1/4” seam allowance is included in the pattern. These instructions assume the user has basic sewing skills. It will fit American Girl, My Life As, Our Generation, etc. I am not affiliated with any doll company or pattern manufacturer. This design process was largely inspired by a free undies pattern at http://www.yetanothermomblog.com/posts/ag-og-panties-pattern-freebie/ You will need: Woven fabric - 8” square. T-shirt knit strips 1.5” wide x 21” long. Waist band is 9”. Leg bands are 6” (cut 2). Thread

1. Cut out 1 panty on fold. 2. Cut from 1.5” T-shirt knit strips: 9” for waist (cut 1), 6” for legs (cut 2). 3. Fold knit strips in half lengthwise (make them long and skinny). Pin each end of leg

strips to leg opening edges. Stretching knit to fit, stitch leg strips to panty so the stitching is on the inside. Stitch other leg band. Zig-zag seams.

4. Stitch one side seam only. 5. Fold waist strip in half lengthwise. Pin each end to waist band ends. Stretching knit to

fit, stitch waist band in place. Zig-zag seam. 6. Stitch the other side seam. Zig-zag seam. 7. That’s it, you’re panties are finished!

I prefer to use a bit more tedious method of attaching knit bands so that no raw seam edges show. To use that method, follow these steps:

1. Stitch side seams, and zig-zag edges. 2. Lay waist band flat. Join short ends, and stitch, making a circle. Join leg bands using

the same method. 3. Fold the bands in half with raw edges together. Fold each band in fourths, placing 4

marking pins. 4. Place 4 marking pins in waist: one at each side seam, one in front, one in back. 5. Pin the waist band to the panty waist, lining up marking pins. 6. Stretching to fit, stitch the waist band to panty. Zig-zag raw edge. 7. Attach each leg bands using the same method.
