Bulletin October is Economic & Community Development Month Hello Rotarians A big thank you to Eric Neill for speak- ing to us in his capacity as GSE Team Leader to Turkey this year. Eric, who is a member of Rotary Club Frankston North, gave us an insight into the workings, opportunities, highlights and difficulties in taking a team to the other side of the world. Fellow Frankston North Rotarians Peter Newman and John Tame also at- tended. As advised on Monday night, Phyllis Scale’s dad sadly passed away last week. On behalf of our Club I would like to pass on our condolences to Phyllis and John. Phyllis has requested LOA until 31 st December to help care for her distraught mother. We as a club, have long discussed the prickly subject of corporate (or business) membership. I noticed by way of Merv’s District Newsletter, that Rotary Club of Warragul have been taking part in a worldwide pilot of trying to bring local businesses into Rotary. It is suggested the senior member of the business would be the primary club member, whilst other staff members would be called Associates or Friends of Rotary. Further details can be found on the latest District 9820 Newsletter. Don’t forget that the Pride of Workmanship meeting for 26 th October is a 6.30 for 7.00pm start. Over the years, this has proved to be a highlight in the Rotary calendar and provides an opportunity to showcase our Club. Healthy Villages Solomon Islands. It's all about the people!- DG Partners project.

The 'humble' mosquito ... It's a killer! It kills around 725,000 people every year. The Healthy Villages project assists the villagers through training, education and supply of tools to reduce the stagnant water where Mosquitoes breed. There-fore a reduction in malaria. Recently we have had another 81 villages in the Solomon Islands apply to join the Healthy Villages project. The cost to support one village is $1,100. If you would like to donate towards the Healthy Village Project – please make cheque payable to Rotary District 9820 Healthy Villages. Post cheque to PO Box 242, Mount Martha 3934.

Healthy Villages project is a project of Rotarians Against Malaria and is coordinated by the rotary club of Honiara. For further information contact Chris Williams on [email protected]

Ritchies IGA Community Benefits Rewards Scheme.

We are a registered recipient of rewards from Ritchies IGA. . On Filling out a

new form a CB No. is required and nominate our club to receive benefits.

Rob Davies will let us know the CB No.. IGA Mt Martha is unfortunately not a

Ritchies. Mt Eliza,& Dromana are and also Frankston South. Encourage your

friends to do the same. It is an easy way for us to raise more funds for our

community. Rob can supply forms or just ask at the IGA checkout.

LET'S GET ROTARY in the NEWS

Dear District Governors and Governor Elects, I am pleased to report a burgeoning relationship which is evolving into a partnership with Channel Nine and A Current Affair. Under the aegis of Philip Archer three further stories will be aired which will serve to promote positive public images of Rotary. I encourage you to promote these programs and build community following through facebook and twitter posts. On the 9th of November, ACA will be doing a special program to help James Lehane and his children who lost their wife and mother (Andrea) after she was run down by teenagers on monkey bikes at the Carrum Downs shopping centre. Following is a link: http://www.3aw.com.au/news/andrea-lehanes-family-says-mother-hit-by-monkey-bikes-wont-survive-20150925-gjunf6.html Around the 15th to 18th of December, ACA will put to air a story on Sharon Chan and how she is pro-gressing and Rotary will be mentioned, and in fact we have been asked to be part of the program. On the 7th and 8th of December, ACA will be shooting a story involving the Choir of Hard Knocks which will go to air on Christmas Eve with Tracy Grimshaw. The story will talk about the amazing success the Choir has had in helping those socially isolated, homeless and unemployed to re-enter soci-ety. The Choir will be doing a tour of Australia to celebrate their 10th Anniversary from March 2016 and the funds will assist them to continue their work across Australia. Once again RAWCS - Rotary Australia Benevolent Society (RABS) will pay an important part in sourc-ing funds to be placed in Trust. In Philip's words, these 3 programs will be beneficial to those whose stories are being told and also give Rotary in Australia, a massive positive public image opportunity. The growing partnership with ACA is one that Philip can be proud of ,

Our Funny this week from John Marshall !!

All throughout dinner, my wife's best friend's four

year old daughter stared at me as I sat opposite her.

The girl could hardly eat her food for staring.

I checked my shirt for spots, felt my face for food, and patted

my hair in place, but nothing stopped her from staring at me.

Finally I asked her, "Why are you staring at me?"

Everyone at the table had noticed her behavior, and the

table went quiet, waiting for her response.

The little girl said, "I'm just waiting to see how you drink like a fish."
