5 D. H.S. BaccalaureateSermon Last Sunday

At the First Methodist Church10 last Sunday morning, a crowdedc- house witnessed one of the bestm Baccalaureate programs ever pre-t sented in our city. The address by

Dr Robert W. Goodlowe, SouthernMethodist University, being especial '

>r ly fine.it The program opened with a

beautifully rendered processional,Mrs. W. Cr Milligan at the piano,

" while with measured step the mom-?. bers of the Decatur High School

, graduating class, marched to theirseats reserved for them in front of

10 the speaker, costumed in gray capsft* and gowns.icf The invocation was led by Rev.*P J. M. Jones. Scripture reading, Rev.

R. E. Bell. Benediction, Rev. T. II. ::s Mays. Preceding the address, Mrs.

F. V. McMordie and Faust Noblesin sang a beautiful duet.

Concerning Dr. Gopdlowo’s ad-dress, it is the concensus of opinion 'it was onee of the ablest, most com-prehensive and practical addresses

^ ever given the young graduates. !He stressed the necessity of the *adoption of Christ ian principles and s

2 uprightness of character as one of i

the fundamentr 's for a successful 1useful life. E s entire discourse iwas richly fraught with wholesome sand practical thoughts, which if put :into practical use wotdd rebound to <the benefit of themselves and their tfellowmen.

There are 38 gradutes in this flarge class, two graduates in music.Misses Lois Bieedlove and Naomi tWright.

g Ir this, connection we might addthat it is sometimes said that stu- adents entering from the rural ii

s schools to the High Schools, scarce- cj ly,* if ever, are honor students, s

Right here, we would disabuse the tmind of tho»e laboring under this s

5 false impression, and note that thel highest honor student, and next* highest, are from the rural schools. *Miss Annie Phillips, of the Syca- j,• more community, is to be Valedic- utorian, and Miss Louise Reed of the rip . Oliver comxnnnity, is to give the C)
