St. Charles Borromeo Church June 17, 2018

Today, June 17, is Father’s Day. Dads, both the

living and the deceased, will be remembered at all our

Masses.

This weekend we are happy to welcome to St Charles

Parish Father Christopher A Cox. Father Cox is a

native of Eastlake in Lake County. He attended St Justin Martyr

Grade School, Eastlake North High School, Borromeo Seminary/

John Carroll University, and St Mary Seminary. He is the middle

one of three brothers. His parents still live in Eastlake. Father Cox

was ordained in 2014 and he has served for the last four years as

parochial vicar (old term: associate pastor) at St Francis Xavier

Parish in Medina. I met with Father Cox a few weeks ago, and he

told me he is “most happy” to be assigned to St Charles. I have

asked Father Cox to introduce himself to you at this weekend’s

Masses. Please let him know “he is as welcome as the flowers in

May.”

This Sunday evening we will award the Fourth $500 Seller’s

Appreciation Prize. Each time you sell a sheet of white or blue

Grand Raffle Drawing tickets, complete the attached Seller’s

Appreciation raffle ticket for a chance on that $500 weekly

give-away. The Grand Raffle prizes for our Eighty-Sixth Summer

Carnival are:

2018 Ford Fusion

Remote start, power windows, locks, etc

$4500 Replacement Roof

(courtesy Second-to-None Roofing)

$3500 worth of Gift Certificates For many years, our St Charles Eighth Grade Graduating

Classes have presented a gift to the parish in gratitude for their

experience here. The Class of 2018 gave us two beautiful, and

much needed, gifts; both of which will be well-used. The first gift is

a copy of the Roman Missal that contains the prayers required for

Mass. This is a smaller version of the Missal as the large Missal

book is a lot to handle for some of our younger servers! The second

gift is the Supplement to the Lectionary--the book of Scriptural

readings proclaimed at Mass. Pope Francis has added several new

saints to the Roman calendar; the Supplement contains the new

proper readings for those Saints’ days. Many thanks, Class of

2018!

Some folks tell me they have a hard time hearing in church;

there can be many reasons. We recently invested in four devices

that should help those who may find it hard to hear in our church.

If you would like to “check out” one of those new devices, stop by

the Priests’ Sacristy next weekend, June 23/24, before any Mass.

Our pastoral associate, Brian Pelcin, will fill you in on how they

operate. Brian will also tell you how you can “sign out” a device

each week if you find it helpful. We will have those new devices on

hand every weekend.

University Hospitals/Parma informed us this week that they will

no longer alert us about hospitalized parishioners nor will they sup-

ply us with the usual “clergy list” of our hospitalized when we visit

Parma Hospital. This will make it extremely difficult to know

about/visit sick parishioners. We are told this is a “compliance

issue” to protect patient information. If you disagree with this new

policy and you would welcome a pastoral visit when in Parma/

University Hospital, please read the detailed article in this bulletin

and make a phone call this week. Ask the Hospital to maintain the

current “clergy list” practice and policy.

FOR DAD ON FATHER’S DAY Looking for the perfect way to remember

Dad on Father's Day? Enroll your Father,

living or deceased, in St Charles Fathers'

Memorial Confraternity. All Dads will be

remembered at the 10:00am Mass on

Father’s Day, this Sunday, June 17th.

Dads will also be remembered at a Fathers' Memorial

Confraternity Mass to be offered once-per-month July

2018 to May 2019. Pick up a Confraternity card from the

Parish Office. Your free-will offering will be gratefully

accepted.

IMPORTANT NEWS

ABOUT HOSPITAL VISITATION University Hospitals at Parma informed us this week

that they will no longer contact us when a parishioner

is hospitalized. In addition, the Hospital will no

longer provide us with a "clergy list" of our

parishioners when we visit the hospital. Until now,

parishioners indicated, when admitted, whether or not

they would welcome a pastoral visit. Only those

who were open to a visit would be included on the

clergy list we were given. The Hospital proposes that

families should now contact the parish themselves;

based on prior experience "that just won't work."

People are hospitalized for such short durations and

rooms are frequently changed, we will not be able to

find you. We are told this is a University Hospitals

"compliance issue" to protect patient information. If

you are as concerned as we are, please register that

concern by contacting University Hospitals at Parma;

call Jill, the Director of Volunteer Services at 440-743-

2372. At minimum, request that the prior "clergy list"

courtesy be maintained and not discontinued.

ATTENTION EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS,

LECTORS, & ALTAR SERVERS

Copies of the new Liturgical Ministry Schedule are available

in the Church Sacristy, Parish Office, and

GUIDE BOOK & DIRECTORY We are in the process of updating our annual Guide-

Book & Directory for the church. This book will contain

everything pertinent to our church: the various ministries,

organizations, committees, activities, functions and events plus

a complete directory of all members. This book is being

provided and direct-mailed to each family at no cost to our

church, and it is again being subsidized by local businesses

that advertise.

If you do not want your telephone number listed in the

Directory, now is the time to call the Parish Office (440)884

-3030 and let us know. Please note that any changes

requested are included in this upcoming edition only.
