strength that e. .actly suits the require-ments of the soil for the growth of gra. s.The difficulty. however, is to get suchmanure. All too frequently it i eith rburned out, due to neglect on the farmer'spart to stir it up at the proper intervals,or it is mixed with an excessiv amountof straw. It is very hard to buy manurefrom a farmer; he ne ds all he can g t forhis own crops.

It is a good idea to make the proper klndof storage space for all kinds of organicmatter as well as manure and treat it withwater. stir, turn over and drain it in or+-rto preserve its strength for future use.

J. 'ature has always accompl ished betterwork than man and a good top dressing touse on fairways is virgin soil if it canpossibly be olJtained-for example, the topthree inches of the soil taken from a fieldthat has produced a good crop. This typof soil will contain 60 to 70 p I' cent humusand the ammonia content will be almost ashigh as that contained in the flame bulkof manure. There will also he a phosphor-icReid and potash content which will vary, depending on the t} pe of decompo sed vege-tables that goes to make up the soil pal"t icles.

Why the Errors'Why? H re is my answer:1. Many clubs think too far into the fu-

10. Out in the country, or even in thesuburbs, almost every club has to rely onits own fire protection. It is nearly alwayssurpr iaingl y neglected.

11. I have found guest-rooms to be agreat help to swell th club funds. Manymembers love to play Saturday aft moons, have <linn r, sl p at th club, hreakfastearly to get a good start, and sn nd therest of the Sunday at th ir cluh. Roomshring real money after they have b en fur-nished. The extra meals the membereats through this convenienc ar doublprofit. It is one of th striking exampleswhich proves that a clubhous should h)managed on the financial prtncipl s of ahotel.
