R ace4Good (R4G) is a unique, deep-immersion leadership program that facilitates purpose-driven leadership practices, while at the same time, working to solve critical issues facing a disadvantaged community. Drawing on Linda Cruse’s global leadership experience as a frontline humanitarian

aid worker around the world, it’s virtual reality and leadership development with a real-world twist!

Central to the R4G program is a dynamic virtual race, through which leadership skills are discovered, developed, challenged and embedded through high-impact, experiential learning and situational leadership challenges. Within this healthy but pressurised environment, accelerated change takes place as participants become fully immersed within a chosen, disadvantaged community. Teams compete against each other to develop the winning business plan, one which will bring vibrancy, innovation and new opportunities to distressed regions. Wrapped around the virtual race is a comprehensive online leadership course. R4G is available as a full leadership programme, a stand-alone race, and a mini workshop.

R4G differentiators:

• Creates fast-track leadership outcomes through a unique structure and learning environment.

• Includes competition, reward and real-life content designed to boost understanding and retention.

• Engages participants through a dynamic, challenging and positive competitive environment.

• Develops the leadership capabilities of each participant, through personal and immersive real-world experiences.

• Strips away typical responses and behaviours because there are no familiar points of reference.

• Exposes participants to an environment where they can learn about themselves, their impact, their vulnerability and their capability for developing remarkable teams.

• Challenges participants to create real solutions that contribute to the survival and sustainability of a disadvantaged community.

• Includes feedback intended to achieve optimal results, develop instincts and emotional responses, and promote effective and informed decisions.

• Provides an extraordinary opportunity for participants and the wider organisation to leave a meaningful legacy.

Working within teams, participants benefit from high-impact experiential learning, leadership lessons and situational leadership challenges designed to drive core values, encourage cross-cultural communication, spark innovation and celebrate outstanding performance.

PROGRAM STRUCTUREThe R4G structure includes a progressive, personal learning experience through a multi-module online course, a dynamic virtual race for teams, and a frontline experience.

To create the best possible learning, it is important that participants are engaged with all modules. Modules span an agreed period and are structured in a way that learning can be embedded as a permanent leadership skill; not an experience that is soon forgotten when participants return to their familiar environments. There are key components to each module that form the foundation for learning and can be easily accommodated within a work schedule.

The main components of the R4G program are:Identifying Participants: We can help you identify the best method for choosing R4G participants.

Prior to the race, participants will work through interactive, online modules designed to stretch and challenge them in preparation for the race and for their immersion in a vastly different world. Key facilitators are available to provide individual support, feedback, coaching and mentoring.

Teams are given up to 21 days in which to research real-life critical issues facing a community and develop a business plan to bring long-term economic uplift. Teams must face challenges head-on as they push their way to the finish line.

Teams finalise their plans, prepare their presentations and face the judging panel. The winning team is revealed.

The winning team will fly out to meet the community and see their business plan brought to life. Through skilled facilitation, the team learn how to communicate and collaborate with the community and cope in a challenging and alien environment. Final adjustments are made to the plan which will bring long-lasting, community-wide change.

During this final yet critical phase, learning is reinforced through formal group sessions and coaching (group and 1:1), so each participant’s experience is integrated into their personal and professional lives. Take-away materials are provided to enable participants to keep track of key actions and for use as a toolkit after their frontline experience.

LEARNING OUTCOMESAt the end of the R4G program, participants will:

• Recognise their own drivers and values and create a personal mission statement.

• Explain what is meant by culture, apply this to understanding and critically reflecting on their own level of cultural intelligence whilst identifying ways to enhance it.

• Identify ways to enhance their cultural intelligence.

• Reflect on their own and others’ beliefs, values and cultures.

• Examine the difference in communication methodologies (verbal and non-verbal) between cultures. Evaluate solutions for effective communication in a business context.

• Obtain a different perspective on the concept of time.Understand how time is perceived differently between cultures. Evaluate strategies to mitigate and manage these differences.

• Evaluate effective cross-cultural negotiating techniques to identify and apply the right tools to a business context.

• Identify, apply and adapt effective techniques to manage cross-cultural teams.

• Recognise leadership behaviours that were observed during their Frontline experience, then apply these to enhance their leadership in their own professional context.

THE FOUNDER Described as one-part pioneer, one-part entrepreneur and one-part magician, Linda Cruse is an international frontline humanitarian leader, leadership expert, innovative thinker, author and inspirational speaker. Linda has worked

alongside some of the world’s most influential figures including HH The Dalai Lama, HRH The Prince of Wales, and Sir Richard Branson, and with companies and foundations including GSK, Nestlé, Cadbury, Thai Beverage, KPMG, Merrill Lynch, UNHCR, Virgin Unite and the World Bank. Linda is author of ‘Marmalade and Machine Guns’, an autobiography documenting a life lived on the edge, and is a guest TED-talk speaker.

Twenty years ago, Linda Cruse was in a job which left her unfulfilled and without purpose. After experiencing temporary loss of sight through stress, Linda was determined to make serious life changes. Within two years, she had sold everything she owned, and for the past 18 years has worked with the best and brightest brains to solve the world’s most critical social and environmental problems.

To achieve this mission, Linda’s strategy has always been to engage the corporate world, drawing on their innovation, creativity, entrepreneurial skills, business acumen and determination to achieve successful and sustainable outcomes.

Linda’s experiential leadership skills have been gained not by books or in classrooms, but by living and working on the global disaster frontline for nearly two decades. In her pursuit, Linda has learned from many teachers along the way: survivors devastated by disaster, eastern gurus, inspirational business leaders, nomadic tribesmen, Amazonian shamans and world visionaries.
