Installing Rack2-Filer 1

The installation procedure consists of two steps, the installation of Rack2-Filer and that of Rack2-Viewer.First, install Rack2-Filer, and then Rack2-Viewer.

1. Insert the setup CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

The Rack2-Filer setup main window appears.

2. Click the [Install Product] button. The installation wizard appears.

3. Click the [Next] button.

• Close all applications before installation.• All previous versions of Rack2-Filer must be uninstalled

before the new installation. For more information, refer to the "Rack2-Filer User's Guide".

• When upgrading Rack2-Filer, if an old version of "Rack2 Folder Monitor Software" is installed, it must be uninstalled.

4. Continue installation by following the screen prompts.

Once the installation is completed, the "InstallShield Wizard" window appears.

During installation, the serial number entry screen will be displayed. Enter the serial number printed on the Serial Number Sheet.

5. Click the [Finish] button.The installation message for Rack2-Viewer appears.

6. Click the [Next] button.

7. Continue installation by following the screen prompts.

8. Click the [Finish] buttonThe installation is finished now.

The program icon of Rack2-Filer ( ) is created on the desk-

top once the installation is completed.

After installation and first startup, Rack2-Filer may be used free for a 40 day trial period.Rack2-Filer will need to be activated if you wish to continue using it after the trial period has elapsed.

To activate Rack2-Filer, select [All Programs] from the Win-dows [Start] menu, then select [Rack2-Filer] - [Activation].

Starting Rack2-Filer

Start Rack2-Filer.

1. Double-click the program icon of Rack2-Filer

( ) on the desktop.

The Rack2-Filer window appears.

You have to create the containers necessary to manage data(i.e.,"library", "cabinet", and "binder") first, in order to use Rack2-Filer.Cabinets are created in libraries, and binders are created in cabinets.

• Up to 6 libraries can be created.• Up to 20 cabinets can be created in each library.• Up to 21 binders can be created in each cabinet.• Up to 1000 pages can be managed in each binder.• You can set any names for the "Libraries", "Cabinets", and "Bind-

ers".

This section describes how to create a library to manage cabinets.

1. Click and select [Libraries]. Or right-click on thelibrary tree and select [New Library].

The [Library Setup] dialog box appears.

2. Type a new library name of 40 characters or less.

3. Click the [Add New Library] button.A library is created.

Let's proceed and create a cabinet in the new library!

Create a cabinet in the library created in the previous step.

1. Click and select [Cabinets]. Or right-click on thelibrary tree and select [New Cabinet].

The [Cabinet Setup] dialog box appears.

2. Enter a cabinet name within 32 characters.

3. Click the [Add New Cabinet] button.The cabinet is created.

Now, let's create a binder in the new cabinet!

Create binders in the cabinet created on Page 10.

1. Click .The "Binder Settings" dialog box appears.

2. Configure binder settings and click the [OK] button.A binder is created in the cabinet.

Now, let's change the name (title) and date of our new binder!

Modify the name (title) and date of the binder created on Page 11.

1. Select a binder (New Binder).

2. Click and select [Binder Settings].The [Binder Settings] dialog box appears.

3. Configure the following settings.

• A binder can be selected by clicking its book spine.• The binder is outlined in red when it is selected.

4. Click the [OK] button.

Edit the binder according to the configured settings.

Performing these steps prepares a binder for storing data.

Let's store data in the newly created binder!

• For importing source files, refer to "Importing Word Files" (Page 14).

• For scanning documents using the ScanSnap, refer to "Scanning Documents using the ScanSnap" (Page 15).

When using a FUJITSU fi series scanner with TWAIN driver instead of the ScanSnap, refer to the "Rack2-Filer User's Guide".

Importing Word Files

Import files from the folders in the computer and add them to a binder.

1. Double-click the binder created on (Plan), and the Rack2-Viewerwindow appears.

2. Click in the Viewer.The [Insert From File] dialog box appears.

3. Specify the target Word files and click the [Open] button.

Imported Word files are added into the binder.

To import further Word files, repeat Steps 2 - 3.New pages will be inserted prior to the currently displayed page.

Scanning Documents using the ScanSnap 1

Scan documents using the ScanSnap (S510, S500, fi-5110EOX, fi-5110EOX2), and then add the data to a binder.

When scanning documents using the ScanSnap, certain preparations arenecessary to enable the use of Rack2-Filer with the ScanSnap.These steps only need to be performed once.

1. Select "Rack2-Filer" for "Application" in the [Application] tab,and click the [OK] button.

Next, scan documents using the ScanSnap.

2. Insert the document into the ScanSnap.3. With the Rack2-Viewer window displayed as the front window

on screen, press the [SCAN] button on the ScanSnap device.The document is scanned and added into the binder.

To scan more sheets, repeat Steps 2 - 3.New pages will be inserted before the currently displayed page.

Viewing the Binders

View the data stored in a binder.

1. Move the mouse pointer to the left or right edge of the page, and

click it when the pointer changes to or .The page is flipped.

Proceed to the next step!

The pages can also be flipped, by clicking or .In addition, you can also turn pages continuously.Refer to the "Rack2-Filer User's Guide" for more details.

Exiting Rack2-Filer

Exit Rack2-Filer.

1. Click in the Rack2-Viewer window.Return to the Rack2-Filer window.

2. Click in the Rack2-Filer window.Rack2-Filer closes.

This ends our introduction to the basic operations of Rack2-Filer.

Rack2-Filer also features many other convenient functions.

Refer to the "Rack2-Filer User's Guide" and "Help" for details of theseadvanced functions.

Troubleshooting

Solutions to problems that arise during Rack2-Filer operations are describedin this section.

Refer to the "Rack2-Filer User's Guide" for further details.

[Problem]The "Failed to install driver" message appears when Rack2-Viewer win-dow was installed, or only image format files can be imported.

Follow the steps below to install the "Raku2 ImageWriter" (The names of the buttons and options may vary according to operating systems).

1. Restart your computer.2. On the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel] - [Printers and

Faxes], and click [Add Printer]. The Add Printer Wizard window appears.

3. Select the "Local printer" and click the [Next] button.4. In the "Select the Printer Port" window, select "Use the

following port" and select "LPT1: (recommended printer port)" or "Raku2Port" from the port list.

5. Click the [Next] button.6. Click the [Have Disk] button in the "Add Printer Wizard"

window, and select the "RkImageWriter.inf" in the "RkImageWriter" folder of the CD-ROM drive.

7. Proceed by following the Wizard windows.8. Click the [Continue] button when the hardware installation

window appears. This adds "Raku2 ImageWriter" to the list of printers.

[Problem]File cannot be imported.

The application that created the target file is still running. Exit the application before importing the file.

[Problem]The files are imported too slowly.

Perform either of the steps below in the Rack2-Viewer window.• Set the "Page Resolution" to a lower resolution (200 dpi recom-

mended) in the [Page Insertion] tab of the [Rack2-Viewer Set-tings] dialog box.

• Set the "Color Data" to "Convert to B&W" in the [Page Insertion] tab of the [Rack2-Viewer Settings] dialog box.
