SURGICAL TIP ‘Radicoat’-meshed Acticoatä allows exudate to drain Acticoatä (Smith and Nephew, Hull, UK) is an antimicro- bial dressing often used on burn injuries, especially after skin grafting. One problem is that standard Acticoatä is waterproof and non-absorbent, leading to the trapping of exudate below the dressing. We have solved this problem by meshing Acticoatä with a skin-graft mesher (Figure 1). The holes created do not allow for any great degree of expansion of the dressing, but exudate can drain freely. We call this dressing ‘Radicoat’ after its inventor (Radoslaw Bielecki). The mesher does need to be rinsed well later.
