General & Beforehand Apple® is dull-minding consumers in the same manner as Windows®. Instead of “Think different”. *) f.e. iTunes offers an enormous inflation of unimportant gimmicks, a record option has been foiled, just as little for Quicktime’s standard-version. iTunes’ streaming-catalogue contains a lot of trash channels, but most European independent, critical, cultural noncommercial radiostations are ignored. Solutions? - Whereas the nearly perfect RadioSure is available for Windows-users, there are only 2 simple, really costfree webradio-recorder-tools for the OS X-platforms: Fstream & VLC. - Significantly, all three helpers appear with outstanding ésprit français. Thanks for them all at this place! Individualists only have to collect streamadresses of webradiostations, got from websites, stream- portals or stream-catalogues etc., then to copy URL’s on a text-list or to save m3u- or pls-files into a special folder, linked in the dock, or to establish VLC-playlists in order to start stream-recording without any hectic activity. Rarely, changed streamadresses have to be actualized. Streamquality in most cases amounts to 128 kbits/s.

Recommended Free Software VLC-Player • most versatile & reliable tool / output = mp3, ogg, flac and others • should be on board of every mac-system • has a simple playlist-function / output without tags or titles • offers Icecast Directories & Jamendo Selections for Charts-consumers PROCEDURE: > drag your m3u-file to the VLC-docklink (1) & record (2) - alternatively open m3u with right-click; or go to advanced file-opening (> network > paste URL- adress) or start streaming from playlist > playback > record > output file appears after stopping in target folder, you’ve defined • VLC further offers management of podcast-adresses, and adds Icecast Directory + Jamendo Selections.

FStream • minimalized window / URL and playlist-files (m3u) are accepted • slower connection than with VLC / abstain from vs. 1.4.9 • output-preferences > aac/mp3/aiff/wav • no playlist-function, output without tags or titles PROCEDURE: > drag m3u-file to FStream or open it with rightclick (1) or paste URL from iTunes into URL-field > commands > start recording (2)

minimalistic interface (blue) FStream-Prefs Audion: works like FStream, is doubtful costfree & without support. Radio-Recorder and Stream RipperX may be used until now, but Shoutcast fails in many independent stream-connections. Audacity together w. Soundflower delivers records, even with scheduling, but handling needs some knowledge and effort. RadioSure, best of all Windows-recorders, can be used with Macs in VBox- or Bootcamp- Win-systems (see Elective radiostream-records /Win) - or by the expensive Crossover. Many webradio tools were developed for digitalizing analogue sounds (vinyl/MC) via line-in- recording. They use built-in audio device (or virtual supplements), and browser or player connects to stream, like Piezo, Macvide AudioRecorder, Leawo Music Recorder, AudioHijack, Soundtap, iskysoft, Ondesoft, all with typical formats. Others, like ancient Radiolover & followers like iRecord Music and QT Pro (both with choice of record-time), take stream-URL’s. Some tools can’t connect to cultural & political independant streams from Europa, esp. Snowtape bzw. MyTuner Radio. Higher system requirements are need for double twist airplay (≥ 10.7.3), x-Stream Radio Recorder (≥ 10.8), and Radio for Mac ≥ idem. AllmyMusic4Mac apperas with curious outfit. Macsome: deficient. For the expensive WireTap a high crashing-risk was documented with OS X 10.8. Completely useless for stream-recording are Amadeus Pro + Radioshift. Only few recorder tools have true editor functions. With PC’s/NB’s scheduling option seems to be less important. . (further details > table below)
