Dear Sir:

Thank you very much for your letter regarding our

test broadcast. You were just a little mistaken on a few

points, but you did hear us. We were not testing NEW

equipment, but testing and checking equipment in use.

While I am Chief, we will probably be making a number of

tests, since I am re -wiring the complete station. It is

good to know that we put jut out such a good signal. ':':e

have, of course, a 250 watt transmitter with a single

antenna tower about wavelength high.

You said you heard "I can do anything you can do"

and"'Then your hair has turned to silver" along with a

tone test. Well, I am sorry to say that none of these

were broadcast by WMGC. nut, wewere broadcasting and you

Thanks once again for your letter.

Very truly yours,

Dear Mr. Geary,

Thanks for your interest in WGSE..NewsRadio 720. We are a daytime station only. WGN in Chicago is a clear channel station and the FCC requires that their be no other station signals that interfere with that frequency for a 750 miles radius. Our transmitter site is 739 miles from Chicago therefore, our signal is only on during the day.

Our format is now news/talk and we operate at 10,000 watts of power. On the weekends we frequently simulcast with our sister station which is Hot Adult Contemporary operating at 25,000 watts - WMAX-FM.

Thanks for listening and I like to invite you to please tune in again. Good luck in your endeavors.

Thanks,

Susie Sullivan Program Director

AM - 2,500 WATTS - 1540 KC

Dear Friend:

12 N. CEDAR STREET SUITE 311 McDONOUGH, GEORGIA 30253 PHONE (404) 957 1540

Enclosed is your QSL and other literature about WZAL.

KERMIT: As of Thursda}k

2/28/85, we had receive 16 reports - several wit tone reception @ 4.0 watt

Enjoyed talking with you on the phone.

WEAL has three transmitters - all remotely -controlled from its studio--int downtown McDonough. The transmitter site is approximately 1e air miles south of the studio.

Jim

WZAL's main transmitter is a C.S.I. 2 kw unit, with cutback to 1 kw for critical houes operation. Our standby transmitter is a Gates BC -1-C, which operates at 1 kw. This transmitter has a cutback to 500 watts, which we do not use. Our PSA transmitter is an L.P.B unit - about the size of a breadbox. It's totally solid state and operates at 4.0 watts. Its normal range is about two miles in all directions.

The C.S.I. T2.5A transmitter was installed new in 1979. The BC -1-G is

vintage 1960's, when WZAL signed -on as WJGA-AM in Jackson, Georgia. The AM was moved to McDonough in 1979, and has been separately owned and operated since 1980. WJGA-FM remains in Jackson, Georgia - about 17 air miles to the southeast of McDonough.

The L.P.B. transmitter was installed new in September, 1980, shortly after WZAL applied -for and was granted a limited PSA. Our tower is very close to

McDonough and its residential areas - hence, the decision to operate from 6 AM, even at the miniscule wattage. On a decent car radio you can carry the 4.0 watts about four to five miles. Our main problem during PSA time is not co -channel interference, but adjacent channel splatter from WCKY-1530.

Our tower and ground system were installed in early 1979. The tower is 196 feet

high. The tower is unlighted (due to its relatively short height and the lack of any nearby airfields).

On the personal side, I did some DXing in the 1960's. At that time I lived

about 20 miles north of Atlanta (McDonough is 30 miles south). Using the only

radio I could afford - a Lafayette HE -40 with four tubes and selenium rectifier -

and a fifty foot longwire, I nevertheless had some "great moments." I have

a QSL from KORL-650 Honolulu, heard one winter morning around 4 AM EST during a WSM silent period. Just recently my wife surprised me with a Realistic DX -400

I'LL receiver, so I'm enjoying "scouting the bands" when my schedule permits.

Many thanks for your report.

Southern & Proud Of It!

January 21, 1992

Mr. Kermit Geary 1266 Riverview Drive Walnutport, PA 18088

Dear Mr. Geary:

I am in receipt of your letter dated January 18. Thank you for writing the station and letting us know of your reception.

Indeed, your receiver did pick up WSTH-AM on the morning of January 10, 1992. WSTH-AM is licensed to Columbus, Georgia, with transmitter and tower in Phenix City, Alabama, which is adjacent to the city across the Chattahoochee River. Our daytime signal is 5,000 watts, with night signal of 500 watts. Because you received our broadcast at 6:25 am, our power was apparently running 5,000 watts.

Solar Broadcasting actually owns three radio stations which simulcast one signal. WSTH simulcasts with WSTH-FM, a station licensed to Alexander City, Alabama. We also own an AM facility in Alexander City, WXTH, which also rebroadcasts our FM signal.

My assumption is that, at approximately 6:30 am, when you lost our signal, many "daytimers" were signing on the air, thus creating more interference. As you know, our frequency of 540 kH can be quite powerful under favorable conditions.

Again, I thank you for your letter, and wish you continued luck and success at your listening post.

Most sincerely,

Dear Sir: j6,501t,

Several weeks have passed since I signed on for the

radio test January 20th. A total of 14 DXers. tuned in

and wrote for confirmation. It was a cold, clear, full

moon morning with 25 degrees F. here. The sound test that

I aired was the same that was used for a DX test approx.

25 years ago. The only change was 1000 watts then to

5000 watts now. Same studio, tower and location. We now

program C & W. and Southern Gospel music. The Audubon

message was for a lifelong interest in birds and nature.

Almost everyone writing was sure of the "Old Favorite"

Songs (le) "Yellow Rose of Texas" and "Sweet Georgia Brown".

I enjoyed looking for each listeners town/city location

in the Atlas. Areas of water seemed to be near each listener.

Our transmitter is a ten year old Harris model. The tower

Is 210 feet tall and 10 feet from a small stream. The

transmitter is remote controlled via telephone lines from

Mr.Kermit Geary 1266 Riverview Dr. Walnutport,PA 18088

Dear Mr. .Geary, Greetinas in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We here at

WECC were pleased to receive your letter dated 20 December 19Q0. It is of great interest to us that our signal has been received at such a great distance.

WECC is owned by Casey Broadcasting, and has been on the

air for five years, our General Manager is Paul Hafer. We are

a commercially supported station with a format of

contemporary Gospel music, and Bible based teaching programs. We are limited to day time only operation.

At the present time. WECC operates with live announcers during A.M. and P.M. drive periods, and during the noon hour, with other periods operating by automation. Our automation system is manufactured by SONO MAG Corporation, mixing is

accomplished by way of HARRIS' Medalist -12 mixing board and processed by a MIC MAZE model CSP 2013 processor. The signal is fed to a HARRIS SX 2.5 A transmitter (placed in service Summer 1990) by way of a TEXAR EAGLE AM Modulation Controller. Our effective radiated power is 2.5 kiloWatts by way of a UP -300 folded unipole antenna from LBA Incorporated.

In reviewing our logs for 18 December 1990 however, I fear our signal may not have been so clear as you believed. We carry no advertising for either a mobile home dealership or a

drug store. Our log indicates spots at that time for an at.jtomooii& dealer lKings Bay 'hrysler Plymt_,ti Lu,

GA.) and a bowling center (Northside Lanes, .Jac_<sonvi l le, FL.

(904) 757-1838,) these commercial spots would have been followed by a promotional spot for a program which would have ended as indicated by your log, and followed by music.

On behalf of Mr. Hafer and our staff, I wish to express thanks for your letter and extend to you an invitation to

tune us in if you ate travelling in the Southeast Georgia -

Northeast Florida area. Should you find yourself in St.

Marys, please feel tree to visit us here at i-JE.LC

Dear Mr. Geary:

Thank you for the kind reception notice in your letter of December 11, 1998. I have enclosed a copy of your letter and am please to verify that, according to the logs of News/Talk 1100 WCGA, you did in fact receive our station.

It is always a thrill to get letters from folks who listen to WCGA at a great distance. We value all our listeners, especially those who work at hearing our signal.

For your information, WCGA uses a Harris DX -10 transmitter into a series L -C net housed in a Kintronics Labs enclosure fed to a Ron Nott 6 -wire folded unipole attached with 36 inch stand off insulators to a Stainless, Inc. brand G-25 model 24 inch face solid rod tower. My wife and four children and I plowed in 36,000 linear feet of number 10 AWG soft -drawn copper and silver soldered them to the 6 inch 99.99% pure .32 mil copper strap which lies at the base of the tower. The copper strap is attached to the tower via a silver soldered connection.

This whole project is a labor of love for me and the staff. Art Manning is someone about whom a book should be written. He is retired VOA and at one station had over 3,000 acres of curtain and rhombic antennas and a staff of 400 plus.

Let us know how we can improve, especially in the area of your expertise and interests. Please let us know how to design a response card that would be much sought after by DXers. I want to have a cool card that will be in demand and will stimulate a desire to hear our station.

Thank you again for listening. Please spread the word. And if you pray, keep us in your prayers.

Sincerely,

Wesley C,6x

Dear Mr. Kermit Geary:

I am glad to hear we're coming in so well there! For 5,000 watts at 1290, our signal does carry quite well.

We've made considerable improvements in our signal since October 1,

1979, which was our first day as WWSA. WTOC AM and FM was purchas- ed by Bluegrass Broadcasting in 1979 and we changed the call let- ters to WWSA (Working with Savannah) on the AM and WCHY, Y-94 (country format) on the FM. WTOC-TV was purchased by another conglomerate who decided to keep the call letters the same. This

forced us to change the AM and FM signs.

We remain a 24 hour -a -day station and have no definite maintenance

period. I'll take us down for maintenance occasionally on Sunday

night and Monday mornings. However, since the installation of

our new Harris MiJ5-A transmitter took place, we very seldom need to be off the air completely. The old 1946 RCA BTA-5F transmitter, which was the main makes an excellent stand-by. We keep it in good operating condition at all times.

I am enclosing for you both an AM and FM coverage map. You'll note

the AM map shows us on a non -directional pattern day -time. We radiate in sort of "butterfly" pattern night-time, which expands to the east and west only. Our northerly and southerly coverage is very minimal at night.

Thank you for your interest in our station and if you're ever in

Savannah, please come visit our brand new facilities at 245 Alfred

Street of Highway 80 on the west side of Savannah.

Happy DX'ing!

Sincerely,

WWSA/WCHY RADIO

Dear Mr. Geary,

Thank you for your letter requesting confirmation of your reception

reports from 1991 and 1992.

I'm sorry that no one has answered your previous requests. Please

accept our apologies.

In reference to your reception reports, I do not have ready access to

information regarding WBNM's transmitter power on September 24th, but I'm

fairly certain the power was 2.5Kw, and that a remote control failure had

allowed the station to stay on the air during post-susnset hours. It is my

understanding that this happened frequently in the past, and that KMOX had

complained several times about the Problem. However, your log of what you

heard on WBNM on that date is an accurate description of the programming

on WBNM at that time.

On January 14th, 1992, again, WBNM was operating at 2,500 watts, from

our normal daytime antenna. And again, your description of programming is

accurate.

I note that in early April, you had difficulty receiving WBNM. I should

point out that WBNM has had transmitter difficulties since February, and

was silent for about 72 days. Also, the difficulties manifested themselves

in the form of reduced modulation. WBNM is back to full strength, with good

modulation again, as of Monday, April 26th.

I would be interested in further reception reports from you and other

members of your organization. Again, I apologize for the lack of response

earlier.

First of all let me say that you did indeed hear WSAF on 1180 kiloHertz on December 12th 1985.

Now let me apologize for being so late with my response, I

through that I had sent you a letter of confirmation in December but when I ran across your letter I could not find a response letter.

WSAF is a daytime station. We signed on the air April 1, 1985, and are doing great. Enclosed I am sending an information sheet, along with our rate card witch also has our coverage map, and a

business card from Terry R. Adams President and Co Owner of WSAF.

Of extra interest I through that you might like to know that we received a letter from Pittsburgh, PA, heard us November 26, 1985.

Again let me say that I am sorry for the delay. Thank you for your interest in WSAF, and I wish you all the luck in your hobby.

This letter will serve as the verification of reception report

for the test program broadcast by WEKS, Marietta, Georgia, on

March 16, 1987 from 1:05am to 1:35am.

WEKS is a class two 10,000 watt daytime only radio station

which operates on a U.S. clear channel at 1080 kHz. It

broadcasts a directional signal pattern southeast toward the

city of Atlanta from a three tower antenna array located on a

10 acre site in Marietta, Georgia. The transmitter is a 1965

RCA BTA-10U AM broadcast transmitter.

WEKS' sister station is WEKS-FM which broadcasts on 104.1 mHz

with 60,000 watts ERP from a tower height 1,200 feet above

average terrain.

Thank you for taking part in this test. It was very interesting

to hear from so many people who listened from great distances

away.

Dear Kermit, Thank you very much for 'our reception report for T^7GT(;

dated 2-23-81. The information you provided is correct, and we hereby verify.

I'm glad to know that we put in a signal at sunset and at night some times. Anytime you hear us on our regular schedule let me know!.

I believe that WGIG came on the air in early 1949, so you must have one of the first veries from TATITG.

Thank you very much for the comments on the audio. That seems to be the hardest thing for an AM station, to keep the audio clean, and. I devote quite a bit of time to it. The audio response on T^IGIG is nearly flat to 15KC.

We also operate WSBI-FM at 100.7MC with 60kw ERP. Again, thanks for your report!

Dear Hr. Geary,

I am pleased to confirm your reception of WJYA on 1080KHz on December 13, 1984. The details you provide indicate that it was indeed our station to which you were tuned.

Your report comes as a bit of a surprise to me since WJYA-AM operates directionally. Our pattern is basically a cardioid with the main lobe beamed southeast and nulls toward Hartford and Dallas, Texas. You were listening almost directly in one of the pattern minima.

The similarity between our programming and WKAP is not wincidental. WKAP is operated by LWB-Allentown Corporation. WJYA is owned by the LWB-Atlanta Corporation. `'riey are basically the same company.

We appreciate the report. Merry Christmas!

Dear Sir,

I was happy to hear a portion of "The Music of Your Life" programming from WJYI on the evening of Monday, December 14, 1981. I submitted a report of my reception at that time, but I am sorry to inform you that I have not received a reply to my letter. I am sure that a lack of time at the start of your new operation is the reason for the oversight.

At this time, therefore, I am enclosing a copy of my previous letter, with the request that you kindly check over it, particularly with regard to my logging of a local advertisement at 5:192 P.M., E.S.T. If the report is accurate, kindly send me a reply confirming my reception of WJYI on 1C$0 kiloHertz on December 14th.

Thank you for your attention to this request. I shall be looking forward to receiving your reply.

Best wishes to WJYI for continued success with "The Music of Your Lifer' programming. I enjoy listening to it, and a local station, WKAP-1320, Allentown, Pa., has recently started the same programming with favorable audience acceptance after 30 years of Top 40 rock.

In regards to your letter of October 16, 1958.

We were running frequency tests on the night of Oct 16th,and were programing the program which you reported.

We here at WGSR are always glad to hear from listeners to our frequency tests, especially one as far distant as yourself.

The reason for no station identification between 2:01 to 2:17 was because the consulting engineer it Atlanta was trying to make a correct frequency measurement.

I hope we meet again on another frequency check and from all the folks here at WGSR we wish you many hours of good listening to the 1570 spot.

Dear Kermit:

This will confirm your reception of our new expanded band AM radio station WAWX 1630 KHz on October 2, 2000.

WAWX began full time operation at 5:00 AM EDT on Monday, October 2, 2000, and is simulcast with WRDW 1480 KHz. This simulcast will continue for approximately six months.

WRDW, by the way, is Augusta's oldest radio station having begun operation in 1935. WAWX and WRDW are part of the Beasley Broadcasting Group of stations.

WAWX operates with a non -directional pattern with 10,000 watts daytime power and 1,000 watts night time power. The transmitter is a new solid state Harris 10 KW unit. WRDW and WAWX are diplexed together and use the same tower.

We appreciate your reception report very much as it helps us determine how well the new facility is operating.

Sincerely,

Harley Drew Operations

Dear Mr. Geary:

12 N. CEDAR STREET SUITE 311 McDONOUGH, GEORGIA 30253 PHONE (404) 957-1540

This letter will serve as verification that you received WZAL on December 9, 1984, from 5:19 to 5:24 PM Eastern Standard Time. At that time of day we are in "critical hours," and operate with a reduced power of 1,000 watts.

Enclosed is a coverage map and program guide. If you want a REAL challenge, try receiving us during pre -sunrise, when we operate at 4.0 watts. During December we are on pre -sunrise power until 7:30 AM (in January we are on 4 watts until 7:45 AM). There are very few stations on the air in the eastern U -S on 1540 kilohertz between 6 and 7 AM.

As a child I used to "DX" the AM band with a Lafayette HE -40 receiver that cost $39.95 in the early 1960's. I used a 50 foot long wire oriented east -west. My best AM catch was KORL, 10,000 watts at 650 kHz around 4 AM one Sunday or Monday morning when WSM Nashville was off the air. Off the top of my head, I also remember hearing KQEO, 920 kHz

around 3 AM. They were 500 watts directional east -west at that hour. I also did some daytime AM DX'ing, and during the winter heard many big stations hundreds of miles away. My listening post was in Marietta, Georgia - about 20 miles northwest of Atlanta.

I would like to purchase a decent communications receiver to do some occasional listening again. How much is a Hammarlund set like your HQ -180? I like the tube types. Hope to

hear from you again soon.

Sincerely,

Ja W. DeVan Pr-- 'ent & General Manager

PS - Our transmitter is a CSI 2.5A -T. CSI is a Florida company. The transmitter was

installed new in 1979. It utilizes four final tubes: 4-1000A's. The tower is

196 feet high.

Dear (fir. Geary:

This will confirm your logging of WWUN, Vienna, Ga., on the morning of December 14th, 1981, in periods from 6:12 to 6:26 A.I. I have heard the tape recording you made of that reception and was amazed at the strength of the signal. Had it not been for medium interference from other stations, the quality would have approached local.

The astonishing thing about this logging was that in that time period, at that season of the year, WWWN was operating with the pre-sunrise power of 273. watts.

I was manager of WWWN at that time. The station has

since been sold, and I am now in the cable television business, which is why this confirmation is on different letterhead.

Dear Sir:

Post Office Box 1247 Savannah, Georgia 31402

Telephone (912) 964-7794

I am glad to hear we're coming in so well there! For 5,000 watts

at 1290, our signal does carry quite well.

We've made considerable improvements in our signal since October 1,

1979, which was our first day as WWSA. WPOC AM and FM was purchas- ed by Bluegrass Broadcasting in 1979 and we changed the call let- ters to WWSA (Working with Savannah) on the AM and WCHY, Y-94 (country format) on the FM. WI'C-TV was purchased by another

conglomerate who decided to keep the call letters the same. This

forced us to change the AM and FM signs.

We remain a 24 hour -a -day station and have no definite maintenance

period. I'll take us down for maintenance occasionally on Sunday

night and Monday mornings. However, since the installation of

our new Harris M415 -A transmitter took place, we very seldom need to be off the air completely.

Sincerely,

Our AM used to be WYGO, simulcasting 100% with WYGO-FM. On September 3,

1990, we changed to WBNM and began broadcasting the Business Radio Network.

As for our power, we are 10,000 watts during daylight hours and we

This is a letter of confirmation on your reception of WIZY-AM, broadcasting on the frequency of 1120 kHz. We operate on a daytime power of 5kilowatts (4.2`amps), with critical hours output at 2.4 amps, or roughly 1700 watts.

Thank you for the wonderful letter! It's not often we get such a complimentary letter, especially from someone 720 miles away! Jerry Sheppard, who was on the air at the time on Friday said you had all information correct, and he thanks you for listening.

If you do listen to us in the future, you may want to note we have applied for new call letters, which are WQXM-AM and FM. Thanks again for the note on your reception of our station.

Dear Ke. r

This will verify your reception of the WPPI test on January 13, 1996 from S.: d

to 3 : c / a.m., Eastern standard time. Although you only heard the test for a short period, there is no doubt you heard us.

WPPI operates with 500 watts non directional power from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, and 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Weekday programming consists of oldies, except for The Ludlow Porch (Talk) show 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and black gospel 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. sign off. On Saturdays, we program oldies 6:00 a.m. to 1:00

p.m. (This is my shift) and black gospel till 6:00 p.m. sign off On Sundays, we program Southern gospel 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and oldies till our 6:00 p.m. sign off.

It is always interesting to see just how far out this thing can go; so far on this test we have gotten reports from Pennsylvania, Missouri, Tennessee, and Louisiana. We have been heard as far north as Connecticut and Wisconsin and as far west as Iowa on previous tests.

I want to thank you for your report and your interest in the test. It makes it worthwhile to come in early for this kind of thing.

Wishing you continued success in DXing, I am

Dear Sir:

ALBANY, GEORGIA October 29, 1943

Your reception of WALF. aR indicated in your report was correct

according to our schedule for October 26. However it rust have been due to

freak conditions as ee have never received a report from that area prior

to October 26, 1943 on which date we received your report along with one

from Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The strange thing about your report

is that at 6:00 PM CWT we changed over from a non -directional antenna

to a directional array which shoots most of our signal toward the South,

and according to Hoyle you should not have been able to hear us at all,

instead of the signal dropping off as slightly as you indicated. As you

probably know radio waves sometimes do strange things.

Our transmitter is a Collins model 20K feeding one 193 foot

vertical tower when non -directional and feeding two 193 foot towers

when directional.

We appreciate your report and would appreciate any other

reports which you may be able to send us.

Dear hr. Geary:

,;e take pleasure in verifying your report on reception of our signals, during our recent frequency check program, of February 6. Your report checks perfectly with our logs.

I was somewhat surprised upon hearing that we were putting such an excellent signal toward Penn. We received malty reports from the north and north east, but none of them gave us such a nice report. However, you are using an excellent receiver, and you probably have an ideal receiving location. There is also a possiblity that you were in the path of strong sky wave.

Perhaps you would like set-up we have down here. It is put in only about six months ago RCA 250-K, the console is an RCA and frequency monitors are RCA's self-supporting vertical.

Dear Kermit,

The Voice of Wonderful Northeast Georgia

100 BOULEVARD TOCCOA, GEORGIA 30577

December 26, 1985

Thank you for your reception report of WNEG, Toccoa, Georgia

on December 7, 1985! Please pardon my delay in getting back to you but with the Christmas rush we've been extremely busy!

No doubt you were tuned to WNEG! The station announcer on

the tape was Angela Austin and she got a real kick out of hearing the recording!

We are a daytime only station with a constant sign on time of 6:00 AM local time with no presunrise power limitation. ^e

use a Gates DC -500 transmitter with a power of 500 watts. It's

about 12 years old but it still does a super job.

Toccoa, Georgia is located in the northeast corner of the state about 8 miles from the South Carolina line and 35 miles from North Carolina. We also operate a TV Station (Channel 32)

in conjunction with the radio station.

If you're ever in the Toccoa area, stop by and visit with us. Thanks again for your reception report which we are happy to confirm!

Sincer

R o es, Gen Mgr
